got plenty of common sense....you kinda see a trend coming when he signs a 1 year and they gave him a qualifying offer and he hasn't signed it yet which means it'll most likely be a 1 year deal......

so that's common sense for you -- now move on dude.

- flyersfan51

Hardly that's just good negotiating on the Flyers part. What are they supposed to do, offer more when they don't have to.... don't worry I'll move on tho.

Lets cut through the crap. Lets get everyone on record. Y/N

My responses follow

1. Carle yes
2. Jagr no
3. Parise no
4. Ryan no
5. Suter no fw
6. Doan no
7. 3-4 addition. Yes

Please feel free to add subtract edit rip apart etc.

But do go on record

- Daman

I agree with no on Jagr-Pairse-Suter-Doan. I think Carle/Ryan could change. I think if they make a trade for Ryan that includes Mez, they will need to resign Carle and sign a veteran D UFA for about $2.75-$3 mil.

I don't think its imperative they re-sign Carle if they get a veteran UFA to go with Timonen-Schenn-Grossmann-Coburn-Meszaros

Maybe give Letang a 3-4 yr extension to give time for the prospects to develop a bit?

Idk if Letang would settle for a "shorter" deal though.

- Marc D

I would be good with that, but ya, not so sure Letang would be. If he hits the market he'll be the highest paid defensemen by a substantial amount I think.

Flyers' summer rookie camp roster. Clapperton is an interesting wildcard, ala Hyka last year (but actually eligible to be signed).

I see Hatcher's kid is invited. Coburn's and JVR's brothers too

Bill,
What are your thoughts if Flyers used the approximate $5 mil for Carle and used it to get a cheaper veteran defenseman like Colaicovo, O'Brien, Hannan, Zanon, Salo, or Kuba?

They would still have Meszaros-Schenn-Grossmann-Coburn-Timonen with Gustafson, Lilja, and Manning and Bourdon (if he is still here) as 7/8 options.

- sulshawn

They would need a puck-moving D to take over Carle's minutes. That would be my main concern. Cap-wise, though, it makes some sense.

He is a great player... But, you've got to wonder if this is overly risky - 12 years? Crosby injury record has got to be worrisome. I thought he wasn't himself in the playoffs. I expected they were going to announce that he got another concussion after the series.

At least Prongers salary is only $4.9MM

I think there are some differences between the two. But Crosby will never live up to the contract. 50/50 odds that L Schenn is the one that smashes his melon.

All is fair game after the cave man play of the Penguins last playoff series.

It's a risk, but a risk they have to take. If not there would be 29 other teams willing to take it.

Of course Kessel has a brother in the NHL... What about Ian Slater, any relation to Jim (both from MI)?

I don't know about 29 teams... Most Flyer fans female dog and moan about Pronger's $4.9MM LTIR. If guess the difference is the over 35 contract. But, still tying up $8.7MM in a guy who has serious concussion issues. I guess this is a good sign for Pen fans, that the management believe those issues are behind him.

Crosby could be concussion free and be the best player in the world. That cap hit could be a steal for years to come.

Crosby put the pens back on the map and built them a new stadium. He's owed that money whether he fulfills the contract or not, IMO.

Doan would be great if interested in Philly but the four-year contract demand is excessive. Wouldn't even want to go three years out, but OK depending on cap hit he'll trade off for an extra year. Two, absolutely.
- bmeltzer

Have to disagree with you on Doan. Doan is one of the best conditioned players in the league and also one of the strongest. He will have no problem giving the Flyers or any team that signs him there monies worth. We better hope he does not sign with the Pens because he will hurt us on the ice physically and on the scoreboard. Giroux with Hartnell and Doan would be a monster line in my opinion. Doan can finish and with a guy like G setting him up he would exceed 30 goals.
