New CBA should and must include a clause that limits total contract volume to max. 27million. This can be either 3y per 9million, or 10y per 2.7million and anything in between, even 2 year per 13.5million would seem fine to me.. But these 100million contracts are just ridiculous.. Current cap-circumventing contracts prevent good players from being moved (i.e. Luongo), handicapping organizations (why should a new GM have to 'pay' for a stupid contract the previous GM agreed upon 5 years before?? let alone the fanbase of a team!).

So: new CBA rule: max contract value is 27million. (with max. individual caphit being 13.5/year)

lol, I had a hard time explaining it to others too, but its all relative to the team and it (actually) makes sense for Calgary. Wideman was going to free agency, they wanted upgrades on their defense, and as much as you may not think so, Wideman is an upgrade. Bringing in a guy like him at 5.25 cap hit allows Feaster to move Jbo who plays a very similar game but is being paid 1.5M more!

The whole point, to me, is replace Jbo who isnt working out for them of late, and save a few bucks while doing it.

I actually just found out about it, its a NMC and that part I dont agree with. Feaster will now have 10 guys on the team with NMC/NTC...certainly makes it hard on yourself down the road...

This is so boring. Shouldn't there be a flood of guys re-signing with their teams, especially RFAs, around this time? I wish the 'Nucks would just re-sign Schneider so then we will know one way or the other what's happening with Luongo. Personally I don't care if we get Luongo or not. Either we get him and probably squeak into the playoffs but don't win the Cup or we don't get him and we probably don't make the playoffs barring some miracle acquisitions from Burke. I just want the whole situation done with.

I think it would be nice if Tor wouldn't lose out on UFA's because of the fact that the organisation does not want to sign players to ridiculous contracts..

The same with Richards last year, and following years with Getzlaf, Webber, etc. etc..

I only see upsides to the max. contract value of 27million (or whatever something between 25 and 32million)..
