I think Burke will (and has to be) active with trades: he has too much dead weight and cap tied up in Lombardi, Connolly, and Armstrong to bring on another overpaid role player like a Moen, Prust, Tootoo, etc. |

Meh, I think we have depth now to the point injuries won't cripple us like they did last year.
Good article on franson http://theleafsnation.com...on-fill-luke-schenns-role
I think he would do fine next to Gardiner. He seemed committed to a defensive game under Carlyle's stint. And actually used his size. But I have been trying to figure out the Gardiner-Komisarek-Liles-Franson pairings... none seem greatly appealing. |

Agreed. He has not much to choose from on the open market. |

I agree that would be the wisest (and most probably) route to go...
Burke will probably wait until Suter, Semin, Parise, Doan, Boyes, Kubina and some others are of the market.. and then will try and make some trades with the teams that missed out on these UFA's to complete his roster and rid 1/2 D-men, and possibly bring in a G or a center..
Dubinsky's value seems to be really low right now, would like to see him on the Leafs.
Stewart, Clutterbuck would be great additions as well.
#1C ... apart from a long shot possibility of Stastny, other options really seem to fall under the category of 'Alice in Wonderland'..
And then.. 'to get quality, you have to give up some': expect a few of Kadri, Kulemin, Blacker, Franson, Gunarsson Lupul, Phaneuf (wishlist! ) not to be part of the team next year.. |

Good article, yeah. If he's not packaged (and we're not getting Schultz), worth giving him another shot this year.
A lot of "wait and see" needs to happen first though: Schultz, Parise, Suter are all on Burke's mind right now (and I can't see them not making an offer to those two guys; Parise probably resigns though, my guess).
And once August/September rolls around, team's that missed out on the (shallow) UFA options will be looking at trades. |

Ugh, I reminded myself why I don't hang out on MLHS' forums anymore: one guy thinks that Franson, Connolly, and a 3rd is going to land Stastny. Wouldn't take no for an answer too |

If you want some insight into why the Maple Leafs fan base is so universally hated, go to MLHS.
The posters there are so far out to lunch it is hilarious. They are the biggest group of jock-sniffing homers you can imagine. Don't ever make the mistake of trying to inject a little reality into the conversation. They are immune.
Have you ever caught yourself facepalming some idiot Leafs fan who called into the Fan590 after a game... you can bet that idiot is a regular on MLHS. |

Feaster is roughly in the same boat as Burke...hes got some money to spend and looking for younger talent. Id be rather surprised if he went after too many, if any, vets this year. |

lol, I had a hard time explaining it to others too, but its all relative to the team and it (actually) makes sense for Calgary. Wideman was going to free agency, they wanted upgrades on their defense, and as much as you may not think so, Wideman is an upgrade. Bringing in a guy like him at 5.25 cap hit allows Feaster to move Jbo who plays a very similar game but is being paid 1.5M more!
The whole point, to me, is replace Jbo who isnt working out for them of late, and save a few bucks while doing it. |
