I'm not blaiming him I blame AV, Rome is an alright 6/7th d man but when AV puts him on the number one pairing and on the powerplay you cant help but facepalm.
- pker2theend

AV is a turd and Rome is an idiot.

At 5.25M for 5 years, they can have him
- nucks_94

Yeah, but what does that do for the Garrison market value?

Why would he play on the flames???
- pker2theend

well now we have an offensive threat on both lines for the top 4. Jbo/butler, Gio/wideman

Could also mean that Jbo is really being shopped.

So we replace all of our players from last year with rookies, Rome with Zanon and replace Lu with Biron? Unless those rookies are all performing like pros, that doesn't look like an improved lineup.
- micah555

Anybody half decent you are going to major overpay for this summer. I would maybe try a big one yr del for Whitney. I think my original line up is as good or better then last yr and we are in extremely good shape for the following yr.

Who is butler? And Jbo is worth a 7th round pick.

As much as we rip on JBo... Trading him and replacing him with Wideman is a step backwards IMO

I do agree. ITs his price tag thats the issue.

Jbo is just overpriced. And to be honest it was Sutters system that held him back (same with Iggy). They are both attack players and they were forced to sit back.

upside is that wideman is a RH so fits better with Gio (who will be captain if iggy leaves)

does seem abit high. but the market is so thin I think everyone is going to be overpaid this year. (watch someone pay 4+ for jokinen )

I don't think Calgary is going to move him. This combined with the Cammy deal of last yr says no rebuild. Flames since the lock our seem to have the opinion that they r going to win the cup if they sneak in the playoffs. Now the kings have done just that so Calgary is even more hopeful. You guys are headed for a leaf like plunge

At that price it might actually beneficial to us that a division rival is paying that much for him. I liked him from looking at his stats, but the guy is below average in his own zone. Basically a lesser(though more physical) version of Ehrhoff IMO.

Sounds good to me. I haven't heard ever the Canucks ever being interested in him or Kostopoulos though so I'm guessing MG may not be interested, especially sine he prefers really cheap(unproven) players for the 4th line. I really hope he looks into signing some legit forwards for that line that can move up to the third line if needed and be great 4th liners like Kostopoulos or Moss.

True, but I'd rather not overpay for a player like Wideman. If I'm going to overpay 5mil+ in UFA it has to be for a more complete player. The Flames need some skill players though so it should improve the team for sure, especially on the PP.

I agree, they should 2 or 3 of J-Bo, Iggy, Kipper, Cammy and get back some young assets and then go into free agency looking to sign some impact players and maybe make a trade for a good young player available or a veteran that could be had cheap. This way, they improve their prospect depth and still have a shot to be competitive for a playoff spot. Similar to what Dale Tallon did with Florida and what Holmgren did in Philly.

I highly doubt it. I know Tallon signed Campbell to a large contract before, but Garrison has only had one good season.
