Where'd everyone go? - I-own_da-Northwest
Everyone's breathlessly awaiting Ek's rumor update.
Quiet night. Even Wideman's ridiculous contract hasn't been enough to spark any action today. |

Well, Calgary just ensured themselves of being 9th in the West for 5 years and rendering Iginla who's one of the last great old-school players into obscurity and that's the saddest thing of all. |

I think you'll see either J-Bo or Iggy to Pitts...they're supposed to lower their cap apparently and I just dont see how adding a 5+mil contract helps with that unless it's gonna be a fire sale on their ageing/ ineffective stars |

I'd imagine J-Bo is the one to vacate. 15.9m on 3 Dmen? |

Yeah I could see that...somewhere out east, he's sucked to say the least, out west. I could imagine him playing for the islanders or a team that has plenty of capspace and 2 or 3 d-spots available |

He'd do well on a team like PIT or NYI or a team that allows him to jump into the rush and not be Weber-lite. |

Yup. But Hartley may have that in the plans already.
Nyi or Edmonton. I don't see Pitts having the cash for him after resigning crosby. And nyi has more of what cgy needs anyways.

J-Bo a Weber-Lite? No offence, but you're verging on location territory there. I kid.
Not that I entirely disagree with you that Bouwmeester would be much more effective on PIT, but I think that comparison is a bit of a stretch. |

No no, I meant having to play as if he was Weber-lite when he's clearly not. He's more of a /very/ poor man's Doughty with his ability to make a good first pass, skate and dangle with the puck and his shot is deceptively nasty. Not in Doughty's class for sure, but in that mold of a D-man. |

J-Bo has become a bit underrated because of his situation in Calgary, and the contract he signed. He's still a very able defenseman.
Like I said, though, to a casual passer-by, that comment could have been location fodder. |

I don't think anyone has really ever made that comparison before
He's a huge minute eater, doesn't get injured and can skate. 1-1.5 million over priced, thats his big flaw. |

do you think garrison or schultz is more likely for the canucks? |

See my previous post. I like J-Bo, just over-priced.
Not that I wish any harm on the guy, but it would be nice if he could just get a nasty hang-nail and miss a game so Henrik can finally become the NHL's Iron Man |

Starting to think Schultz. I like Garrison, and think they should pursue him even if they get Schultz (provided they can trade Ballard), but he's not worth over $4 million/season, and even at $4, is a little over-priced.
edit: I actually liked Wideman better. Figured he'd get around 5 per, but not for that term. |

to be honest its the NMC that makes me shake my head the most. And ya, I thought 2-3 yrs would be enough.
Garrison's price might be ridiculous now, I originally thought it would be 4.5
I sure hope schultz lives up to his hype and AV doesn't do his magic on him |

ha ya. Well unless Jbo decides to actually hit someone it will be a long wait.
Personally thats one of the more impressive things about iggy. He hits and fights and is still third on that list (distant 3rd, but 3rd non the less). Perry as well. |

I'd rather Wideman at 5, than Garrison at 4.5. Wideman got 5.2, right?
Your right. Without the NMC, and for 2 or 3 years, that deal would be much more palatable.
Yeah, can't believe Gillis allowed AV to come to the meeting with Schultz. Probably gave him a strict talking-to about being on his best behaviour. |

ya 5.25. Which is only a 16% raise (not bad considering a good year). I agree I'd prefer him over Garrison for similar numbers....except Garrison is a bit more aggressive.
Term is a couple yrs long, NMC sucks. And the aggressiveness of jbo and wideman is nothing to fear. Almost feels like we have to keep sarich around to cover for that. |

Shultz is the important one. Cheap RHD second pairing. We could fill in 3 rd pairing after |
