No thanks. He is a solid defenseman but he's sure to be overpaid by anyone who signs him because of his play in the postseason. I'd rather use Lilja/Bourdon/Gustafsson as the 6th dman for the cap hit.

Well, getting Schultz and dealing Meszy would be more ideal, but I have no idea where the Flyers stand on that front.

There are othr viable options via FA too. Garrison for instance.

IF the Flyers dealt Jake and Meszy, they'd actually gain cap space. That would become a wash if Carle were re-signed, but they'd still have around $8-9 million to work with.

You could easily go out and get a guy like Doan or Garrison for $4-$4.5 million per too.

When reading and looking at the info about the amount we spend on our defense and how much more we spend vs. the rest and how we don't draft and develop our defense as well.... my thoughts went to our offense and how little we spend on it and how much bang for our buck we get from dollars spent their vs. our competition(think about how much the rangers spend on offense and they seem not to score at all)... most of those teams listed in the article spend to the cap(we all have the same dollars) it just how we allocate those dollars. If we suck at developing defense and have to spend on UFA's for defense ....we make up for it on the Offense side of the puck..... I thought we were one of the highest scoring teams in the league and we spent the fewest dollars on offense.....so I guess my point would be spend money where you need to, fill holes, but spend money on good players and win games. Defense---offense who cares....you can win games 6-5 or 2-1 ------ a win is still a win!!!

I really think results a team has goals score or defense is not where the money allocation but more of the system the team plays.

What kind of contract are we thinking Carle will sign with the Flyers? Can't be anymore than the $4.5 mill Coburn signed right?
