Were going to find out. Schenn was a top defenseman playing over 22 minutes a game for the Leafs in 10/11 as a 21 year old player.
- MJL

And how good were the Leafs? Obviously you can't blame it all on Luke but he was playing large minutes as you've pointed out. How much of Luke have you seen before being traded to Philly?

Enough to know that he is a good player, with potential to be even better.

Who's the better play? James van Reimsdyk or Luke Schenn? Who has the higher ceiling? Whoever got the better play, got the better deal and possibly made us a lesser team by getting the lesser player.
- Schenn2shine

Schenns ceiling isn't as low as many are suggesting. Right now I actually believe both players are equal. I dont see where JvR is that much better than Schenn.

You obviously don't expect to see L Schenn 2 shine. I think you need to change your handle and specify Brayden.

Just for shidz and giggles, looking at these past two offseasons, so far... I'm almost at the point of saying Homer does what Snider wants and what Snider wants is what he feels is what the majority of fans want. Just Food for thought... nothing serious. BUt if I do see a Voracek+Mezaros+ 1st rd pick for Ryan, this will go from Shidz and giggles to all out hypothesis!

Very true. If Homer was, we could have easily traded Gagne for Meszaros and not have walker at all. We'd also would still have that second round draft pick.
- Schenn2shine

Not sure how you came to this conclusion.

Tampa took Gagne as a salary dump. Homer's options for trading Gagne were limited and Yzerman made sure to dump his own player on the Flyers in return. He then dealt Meszaros to the Flyers from a position of strength knowing the Flyers were looking for help on the blueline. I would think it's pretty likely Homer brought up the idea of a Meszaros Gagne Swap during initial discussion and was quickly denied

Homer puts a quality team on the ice every year. And I think he's well on his way to doing it again.

more patience might have put them in a position to win a cup, but they seem to change philosophies like socks.

I can't tell you exactly how many games I've seen him play. I've seen enough to form an opinion. I've already stated how much better I think he can be.

And the philosophy they are currently using could also put them in a position to win a Cup. Trading one player, isn't changing philosophies.

Thanks, man! I'm hoping my vacation is smoother than Jsaq's. Tropical storm hit him in FLA and then he tweeted about how he was stuck in traffic.

He'll be in a RIPE mood when he returns to HB.

I know. The Meszaros deal was made before Noon on July 1st 2010. Obviously Tampa had some interest in Gagne seeing how he ended up there. Gagne was a making only making a million more then Meszaros and Gagne was probably at the time considered to be the better player, seeing how Gagne just came off a clutch Stanley Cup Final and Meszaros an off season to his standards. Would you say the Meszaros deal was made quickly before other opinions could have been exploded by Free Agency? If not, why not?

EDIT

It was already rumored Gagne would be moved but he wasn't moved right away. So why the rush for Meszaros if a straight up trade was impossible?

I don't know. I can speculate just as you did. But I can't know that Holmgren could've traded Gagne for Meszaros. You may think you know. But I don't know if he could've.
