In terms of my post and how many teams in the League had more players that scored 18 or more goals, no Harry Z isn't a part of that. Chemistry magically happened last year when the Flyers added Jagr. Why can't the same happen with another player? I think it can because Giroux is that good.
And are we worried about the depth of a first call up? Should we look around the League and see what team has a more impressive player for a first call up then Harry Z? Or should we focus on the players who are expected to be regulars? - MJL
Jagr is one of the league's all time best players. You're ruling out players on whether or not they'll make the team coming out of camp now. I wouldn't. If Harry Z remains Flyers property, he could play for the Flyers at any point of the season, start, middle of finished (Doesn't matter). I still don't consider him to be a solid depth forward. |

I think Schenn will be a much better player now that he is out of Toronto. People are going to love this kid. - stveshdy
Hey I'm giving him a clean slate and a chance to show me he was worth it. This move makes me think of Mez before he came here. Thing is I don't recall moving anything that major to get him unless memory is taking the night off. |

upgrade on lilja and bourdon? yeah, but did we have to use an asset like JVR for just schenn and nothing more? I don't think so and I would have rather held my cards and waitied until after July 1. schenn is our 5th best dman if carle is re-signed. let's see what happens from here on out. - isaiah520
Honestly JvR has shown flashes but nothing that warrants him that much better than Schenn. Like I said I value defenseman more b/c its easier to find forwards. Schenn is going to be a monster here and I expect him to play much better. Would I like a pick with the trade sure but I'm not upset that we didnt. |

They're going to like his style of play, in that he is a physical player. But like any defenseman, when he makes the inevitable mistakes that a young player is going to make. He will be the subject of the wrath of the fans. Because if he has a bad period of games, it will be he sucks, etc.

Harry Z sure could make the team. But when looking at the depth of the team's offense, Harry Z isn't part of the conversation for me.

I feel the same way as you. As I've said, I wouldn't have made the trade. But looking at it objectively, It's not a bad trade. Not a great trade, but not a bad one either.
As I said in the past, I wouldn't have made the Carter and Richards deals. But I can step back from that and look at the deals objectively. - MJL
I'm not understanding why your view is objective and others aren't? Nobody hates Luke Schenn here. I've been saying exactly what you've been saying, I wouldn't have made the deal. At the same time, what's wrong with breaking it down and making points that differ from your own? |

I do think we should have used JVR to get a better player in a package deal or something, but my guess is that maybe our perceived worth for him was higher than what he actually was. - JoeRussomanno
you could be right joe, but homer could have waited until the musical chairs worked more to his advantage. homer is not a patient man and the flyers are not a patient org. |

22 years old. He's going to make mistakes. The kid is only going to get better and I dont believe his max potential is 5/6 like some believe. I think he can be a solid defenseman an possible finish as number two defenseman (for people who value numbers). |

Very true. If Homer was, we could have easily traded Gagne for Meszaros and not have walker at all. We'd also would still have that second round draft pick. |

Your free to tell me my viewpoint isn't objective. When I'm reading that the Flyers didn't get better defensively, and that they don't have enough offense. And that the Flyers got worse with the deal. In my opinion that is lacking objectivity.

re the carter and Richards deals, I was happy with the Richards return and I still am, but w/ the carter deal, I thought the return was light and that could end up being the better deal. |

There's no question that he has the potential to be a top 4 defenseman. He's already show that he can as a 21 year old. And if paired with the right player, maybe even a top pair defensive defenseman.

Who's the better play? James van Reimsdyk or Luke Schenn? Who has the higher ceiling? Whoever got the better play, got the better deal and possibly made us a lesser team by getting the lesser player. |

Were going to find out. Schenn was a top defenseman playing over 22 minutes a game for the Leafs in 10/11 as a 21 year old player.

Exactly. This kid is going to a very good player for the Flyers this year. |
