we were discussing this yesterday -- 7.1 for the third d pairing is way too expensive. I really think Gus can be a full time Defensemen and contribute to our team this year.....Let Carle walk and sign Parise and if needed, a 7/8 defensemen.

Even if the Flyers re-sign Carle, they will still have over 6M in Cap space to work with. So I don't see what the issue is. So what's the solution. Does anyone want to trade Coburn, so they can play Bourdon. Coburn is in his prime and getting better and better. Trade Meszaros to play Bourdon. Meszaros may have the best skillset of all the defenseman on the Flyers. He's shown in the past that he can play at a high level. We read talk about limiting Timonen's minutes to keep him fresh for the playoffs. Best way to do is to have the depth the currently have. Trade Coburn or Meszaros, or don't re-sign Carle. And one injury and suddendly your 3rd pair is Bourdon, and Lilja, or another Rookie. Or one of those players playing on a higher pair.

Great job today, Bill. Great read. Those numbers seem staggering. It amazes me how much more we are spending than the next guy. You would think at that cost we would have a defender to spare for Ryan if that was what Anaheim was wanting. It seems Mes and Corbie are the names being tossed about. But from the looks of it, MAB Abe Gus may be just as valuable due to their lack of cost. We may be hitting their window here shortly where we get the most return on them vs. their actual cost.

I was just a boy when he coached the Flyers and I thought he was the most amazing, mystical, and magical coach ever. Those were good times in Philly.

I was crushed when he went over to the hated Rangers.

Well I did see Mr Wang was at the draft table with Garth. Maybe he came up with this solid idea similar to when he insisted on signing Dipietro until the end of time. Also, aren't they still paying Yashin? Man... i'd be frustrated if I was an Isles fan.

anaheim would not include Sbisa -- flyers need to add more I think -- a 1st and it should be a done deal, but Anaheim wants more. Schultz will not be on the Flyers next year....book it!

I thought MAB was fine and so was Lilja -- not a lot of teams have top 6 Defensemen. most have top four -- as it stands with Carle we have a solid 8 in my opinion.

If not for the fact that we'd have to carry 8 defensemen than I'd be totally cool with having the D corp they have now. But I think it makes the most sense to move Mez.

Not a whole lot has been made about it (that I've seen) so I'm still not convinced it actually happened.
