First off, Ryan is more than a "nice" player. Potential 40 goals PF don't grown on trees, and he has a great track record already too.
Secondly, why not do both?
My plan:
Add
-Ryan
-McClement/4th line center
-Prust
-Garrison
-Re-sign Carle
Subtract
-Mesz & Jake (via Ryan deal)
-Jagr - LordStanley88
1. We had one of those and traded him
2. You're rebuilding the whole team just for bobby ryan. Expect growing pains again next year |

so we'll have 10 million if Pronger's was counted above.......Voracek at 3 and Parise at 7...there we go. - flyersfan51
No, we would not have 10M if Pronger was counted. |

I dont think its rebuilding the whole team if they decide to trade Bourdon and Voracek for Ryan. |

Voracek backs off the defense better than any forward we have. He may be the best skating forward we have. He is underrated defensively. He is very strong on the puck. He is still very young. And has improved noticeably even from the beginning of the season to the end. He has size, is skilled with the puck, and is only now starting to realize how good he can be.
I don't see how any of us over rate him in any way. I think it is more accurate to say that too many people in here OVER rate Bobby Ryan.
Straight up I would still deal him for Ryan, but not as part of the insane deals we have seen thrown around. - MBFlyerfan
Voracek's ability to skate the puck up the ice, and establish the puck in the offensive zone and to the right people, was a big key to the success of the Flyers PP last year. |

Homer won't move Voracek. He's to valuable to get a guy like Ryan WHO THEY DON'T NEED.

Every play has his positives and negatives about his game. Two years ago people were questioning Voracek (b/c he was lazy in Columbus) and now people are acting like hes untouchable. Not saying you specifically. I just find that kind of funny.
By the way I like Voracek. |

Ryan could post 40-42 goals just next season IMO. I think people are underrating his talents and potential. - LordStanley88
I don't think anyone doubts that Ryan could score 40 goals playing with Giroux. |

That's not what he suggested though. I'd be more on board for that move, though I still don't think we need to. Youve then lost Voracek, jager, and JVR and replacing it with Ryan. |

It would be Ryan, Schenn, and another added player through FA. |

Im talking strictly forwards. I don't now how much more you can add if you have Ryan at 5.1 and then resign Carle. I don't feel like doing cap geek either. |

The chickens have come home to roost on that 2nd-year given to Lilja... I don't usually hold things against Flyers' brass, but that was really overaggressive/cavalier contract negotiating on their part. They could have just signed him to a 1-year deal last summer, then re-upped him for another year if he had played well for them, and they wouldn't have been stuck in a 35+ contract situation. Instead, they're faced with having to carry 8 D on the roster, with 9 under contract. - Tomahawk
They aren't stuck with having to carry him. If the Flyers wanted to, I don't think it would be that difficult to trade Lilja. You sign a player to a 2 year deal because you want him for 2 years. He did a good job last year. And I'm more them comfortable having him as a depth defensman on the team. |

What's the point at moving Voracek and Mesz for Ryan + adding a free agent defenseman? The problem was team defense so you're going to move a good two way player and defenseman for a shoddy defensive forward and then add a D? Why wouldn't we just keep the good two way player and defenseman? |

I find it kind of stupid.

I know your strickly saying forwards but you still have to put value into Schenn b/c hes an upgrade on your roster. So basically they can add Ryan, Schenn, 4th line center for Voracek, JvR, Bourdon.
Thats if they dont trade Mez. I'm sure they would have to add a pick in though to even make it work. However, I believe Anaheim wants Schenn or Couturier but thats not happening so lets go after Doan. |
