Even Jesus called himself overrated compared to his fans-to-be (see: John 14:12).

Phoenix GM Don Maloney expects Shane Doan to test the waters as an unrestricted free agent. Doan expressed his desire to remain with the organization, but the team's uncertain ownership situation may result in him signing elsewhere. Maloney is still optimistic a deal can still be reached though. Doan said he would probably listen to other teams if he made it to July 1 after his season ended, but that doesn't mean he has closed the door on re-signing with Phoenix.

I would look to add Doan but it has to be 2-3 year deal max. |

Flyers have proved time after time they can't find success with Dmen in the first two rounds. As much as I hate to say it why continue to bother? Take the best guy available and go from there. There will always be free agents and trades. As long as the cabinet is full I personally don't care how we got them. - hereticpride
Agreed. Do what we do best and draft the guys we know will succeed. We're good at recognizing forwards like that. Find a trading partner who is good at drafting Defensemen & Goalies and start swapping.

Mez was the whipping boy before he got hurt.....and yeah i would do mez and voracek for ryan....to much money on d. - Philly1980
You're going to have to invest in a d-man in FA if you lose Mez though.
I do the deal, but not because we're paying our blue-liners too much. |

1) Ryan isn't jumping at the first thing they can. He's a local product, youth Flyer, and Clarke is his godfather. He has ties to the organization and would be a great fit here.
2) I don't think dealing a top 6 forward and d-man is "breaking the bank". Mesz is easily replaceable. - LordStanley88

you need that killer instinct....voracek holds on and rags with the puck so does giroux most of the time...cant have two guys that do that on same line....this would be an awesome setup:
Hartnell - - - Giroux---- Ryan
PForward Playmaker Sniper
this is meh:
Hartnell - - - Giroux---- voracek
PForward Playmaker playmaker - Philly1980
You've been playing too much NHL 06. |

3/$12 million.
Sounds good to me as a back-up option. |

Ryan is a nice player, but at this point in time, giving up a defenseman and forward plus the likely needed draft pick is til much to give up for a team that needs to strengthen its defensive play, not offense. |

Same.
That's not my point though. My point is that they aren't just jumping at the 1st option. They've had heavy interest in him for awhile. |

So I'm guessing the "too much money on defense" mantra is the new issue de rigueur?

Why wouldn't they be able to afford two contracts in the region of $1-1.5 million?? - LordStanley88
they probably can, but i'm not certain how much wiggle room they have in the offseason
and some of the guys out there may cost a bit more than that. i just don't feel like punching numbers into capgeek |

Shane Doan should be the target for the Flyers. Cost nothing but money. Plays hard and physical, leader on the ice, nice power forward. |

And it will weaken the team defense from the forward side of the puck.

First off, Ryan is more than a "nice" player. Potential 40+ goal PF don't grown on trees, and he has a great track record already too.
Secondly, why not do both?
My plan:
Add
-Ryan
-McClement/4th line center
-Prust
-Garrison
-Re-sign Carle
Subtract
-Mesz & Jake (via Ryan deal)
-Jagr |
