Wait a sec...
Just a day or 2 ago Ek was saying that Parise's rights were going to be traded before July 1st. Now you are saying NJ is going to sign him?
Is it possible Ek has no idea what he is talking about and is just making things up and relaying info he hears on TSN? I think so! |

Well I'll say this I want the Habs to get good again for real, because the fact that the Leafs have been back in the East for well over a decade now and they haven't met in the playoffs is totally lame. The games are so amazing even when they aren't big games, imagine how awesome it would be in the playoffs. I want to see the Leafs and Habs meet in the playoffs multiple times over a few years, it would be great for hockey.
- Zezel
Ya, I know what you are saying. That would be amazing!
I do believe that both teams are on the right track in terms of rebuilds, but it may still be 3-4 years before they are both contenders.
Here is a question for you, who is further along in their rebuild? It is hard to say... Price gives Montreal a huge advantage, but I think the Leafs prospect pool is a little deeper?? |

Trottier never played for an original six franchise. Dionne scored most of his points with LA |

You are also incorrect. Sundin had 1349 career points in 1346 games.
But ya, his statement is untrue. Gordie Howe anyone? Didn't Steve Y have more? I think it was supposed to be 'an' not 'any'?? - Hockey_Reverend
out of those 1349 points 314 were scored in Quebec and 28 in Vancouver. The remainder were with the Leafs which are an original six |

* The player who defined the scoring power center position and the best Leaf EVER. The all-time leading scorer of any original 6 franchise. Think about that!
Alfie has more points with the Sens than Sundin had with the Laffs.
Think about that! - Cup 06
Yeah lets think about that, Alfreddson just 1 team, Sundin started out with the Nordiques before he went to the Leafs. Hmmmmmmmmmm |

Alfreddson will always be in the shadow of Sundin whether it be in his home country of Sweden or here in the NHL. Come to think of it...it's just like Ottawa will always be in the Leafs shadow. |

Alfreddson is a shorter, not as good version of Mats. He is Mini Mats. |

Shanahan's a lock for next year. It's better to leave Shanahan in limbo for one year than keep Oates and Bure in limbo. If Quinn's not on the panel, the case for Bure weakens and Shanahan's in, I bet. - gomer300

Honestly anything, though, I don't see Ryan helping you guys at all, bad personality, hes a decent player, but I think full of himself. Just my own opinion though. |

bad personality? huh.....if you were a star player on a team and your name kept coming up in trade rumors.....wouldn't you want out if you knew your team didn't want you?
I honestly would rather have Parise, but I doubt he signs with the flyers. |

I realize the trade rumour thing would get to anyone, I think it affected Schenns play also, he'll most likely be a much better player now that it's off his mind.
I ment before that, I thought he didn't really get along with the guys in Anaheim. Oh well, all I know is that he scores 30g so he'll improve any team he's on statistically. |

I'm sure icing a winning team will help ease the pain for Ottawa and their fans.

It's one thing to be a homer/leaf hater...I get that and welcome the banter... But to everyone who posted on this thread implying that Sundin is not a HOF'er, you have proven your homerism has blinded you and your true knowledge for the game is questionable at best.
All the men that were elected to the HOF are deserving....as is Shanny....but can you really think of a time over both their playing careers that you would actually trade Sundin to acquire Shannahan? |
|
|
|
Sundin over Shanny is weird. Mats would have made it eventually anyway, but its still strange. And, I don't mind including players with injury-shortened careers (even still I think its Lindros over Bure), but poor Pat Burns.
500 coaching wins with 3 Jack Adams to boot is really impressive. |

oh, no doubt Pat Burns not making the cut while he could receive the award in person is the most dissapointing HOF decision IMO. That just wasn't right. |

I don't see Sundin over Shanahan being such a travesty. Their resumes are very similar. You can make an argument for one over the other (and I would probably choose Sundin), but it's not like there's this huge gap you could drive a truck through between them. Shanahan was a somewhat better goal scorer and may have had slightly higher peak value. Sundin was better and more consistent for a little longer. If you have to pick between just those two, either choice is legitimate.
I think the more interesting question is whether Shanahan deserves to get in over Bure. |
