I'm sorry, but there's no way 779 points should get you into the Hall.
I know it was only over 12 seasons, but that's got to be a joke. It's still only an average of 65 points per season.
Surely you jest, NHL. - Leeman4Gilmour
Your kidding right? He averaged over a point per game. |

Sundin should have had to wait. Sundin over shanny is highway robbery.
100 more goals and 3 cups to 0.
Makes no sense. - CBJcurmudgeon
It's the HOCKEY Hall of Fame... Not the NHL Hall of Fame.. Contributions to all levels/leagues of hockey are taken into consideration. |

Sundin and shanny were the exact same "type" of player. And shanny was clearly better. Shanny was on better teams, but that doesnt matter. If it did half the habs in the hall should be kicked out. - CBJcurmudgeon
How so? Sundin 1.0 PPG, Shanny 0.89 PPG, Sundin played almost 200 games less but yet had only 5 points less than Shanny. |

Sundin is a very good pick. Bure has no business there. The guy had skill, but his career was too short. |

Maybe because its the hockey hall of fame and not the NHL hall of fame.
but really these discussions are idiotic.. the guy was an awesome player, worth paying NHL prices to go see play. - senstroll
Bure also played only 702 games. Averaging that out totals only 8.56 NHL seasons played. So he really had 779 points in 8.56 seasons which works out to being an average of 91 points per season. That's clearly HOF worthy. |

have to factor in Cups and how Shanahan was the prototypical power forward |

Forsberg has under 1000 points and averaged a point per game.
He's a lock.
Bure was completely deserving. My only issue is mats over shanny. |

Maybe Shanny didn't get in for being such a horrible disciplinarian. |

Being Shanny first year as head disciplinarian for the NHL probably had something to do with it, perceived favoritism? Now the question is, if Bure got in, then does Lindros next year? |

Was Shanahan largely involved in the community though? Outside of the game, did he do much to support the game or team he played for? Sure he was a great player and put up a ton of points...but I cant recall if he was as solid off the ice as he was on... |

What does "power forward" have to do with it? Sundin was also a long-standing Captain (and a classy one) in one of -- if not the -- toughest markets to play in.
The thing is, this is all just speculation: until the "secret criteria" is revealed (if ever) there's always going to be those who freak out when they announce HHOFers. |

You are freebasing bath salts if you have issue with Sundin, but not Bure, over Shanahan. |

But also take into account that Sundin averaged a ppg career on some pretty terrible Leafs teams. Imagine what he could have done with a good core of players to play with. I think that has to have had SOME weight on the selection. |
