Does Sundin deserve to be in the HHOF ? YES 
Was he a complete DOUCHE for not allowing the Leafs to get back some assets so he could go on a run for the CUP ? ABSO FUKKING LUTELY

He was the captain of the team and he's said many times he felt the Leafs could still make a playoff push in his last year and did not want to jump ship. It's not his job to general manage the team.
He gave his all for Toronto and went down with the ship, leading the entire franchise in scoring along the way, what else is he supposed to do?
As for Vancouver, he's said he was surprised and disappointed that even though he was working out hard, it was way more difficult than he thought to get up to NHL game speed coming in halfway through the season. Then he retired. Wow, the guy slows down at the end of his athletic career, and that makes him a douche?

Im sure after he was asked to waive his NTC he felt very disappointed in the fact that the team he trusted and devoted his life to wanted to move him. Therefore making him question whether or not he wanted to continue playing hockey.
You were not in his shoes, and do not understand the stress that an elite professional athlete like him has to go through with a decision like that.
Can you imagine living somewhere for over a decade and then having your family tell you to GTFO. I can tell you im pretty sure I'd feel pretty betrayed.
Its unfortunate the way it worked out, But he wanted to give one last kick at the can once he realized he still had passion to play the game.
Im not blaming you for being so bitter. But you really need to look at all the factors from his stand point rather than throwing him under the bus after devoting his entire career to you. |

The true measure and value of Mats Sundin is best illustrated by our desperate failure to acquire what he brought to the table ever since he has been gone: size, leadership, playmaking ability, scoring, "go to" guy in all situations; just an absolute legit cornerstone, franchise player who was the foundation of this franchise for his entire time here. IMO, we should have recognized him MORE during his time here for how damn great he was for so long, and its a shame he never had the extra pieces around him to allow him to lead us the extra yard. Thanks, Mats, and congrats. |

I also think as much as he wanted to try one more time... his heart was not in it. He had a new wife/to be and a new life he was anxious to get on with. Emotionally, I think he just wasn't where he needed to be any more. |
