Staal for Ryan straight up would have been a fair deal.

But what if, and this is just hypothetical, that Staal told the Pens he wanted to go to the Canes and that any GM who spoke to him he would tell the same thing.
Would you give up Ryan for 1 year of Staal?

I'm sure GMs would ask to talk to Staal before making any big move like that and if Staal let it come out.....

pretty sure we were the only team offering Gionta anything close to $25 millions.
- DoubleDown

He said he signed in Mtl because it was the best offer. Supposedly when he took the offer to the Devils they told him he should sign it. He wanted to stay in NJ.

Habs should look at how the Leafs managed Kadri and Schenn. They are a model at developing young players.

pretty sure schenn is the greatest, marty.

He's not a goal scorer though.

agree. but he scored 18 so he's got some hands. though ya, he's more of a playmaker but the beauty of Crosby is that he can be the playmaker or the finisher. ditto Malkin. so i don't think you need just a pure goal scorer to play with them. and i mean, im only looking at affordable UFA options really, not shoot-for-the-stars options like Parise/Nash/Ryan.

It seemed pretty clear, even before the trade, he was going to Carolina.

I think Pitt will get one of Nash or Parise.

It's probably what happened. I'm pretty sure that if he could have, Shero would have traded him for a winger for Crosby.

Still, Brandon Sutter is a pretty good 3rd center.

i really don't think there's anything Montreal could have offered to get him here. but thats my opinion.
