you know, last lockout, i didn't care. i thought both sides were (frank)ing retarded. but now, i'm firmly on the players' side. they made out well in the last CBA, but that wasn't by design. it was a matter of timing and explosion of digital content and the arrival of all these new revenue streams for the league. it's all combined to drive up league-wide revenues and subsequently the salary cap. and the willfully ignorant owners let their GMs hand out ridiculous contracts (Gomez, DiPietro, Redden, etc.) that drove up salaries and changed the face of NHL contracts in general. the owners railed for cost certainty and they got it. now they want a bigger portion of revenues.

if you're a member of the NHLPA, especially one of the guys who experienced the last lockout, how dug in are you this? these guys won't let the NHL bend them over again. it would be PA suicide.

Players are still employees, very well paid employees. They really have nothing to complain about.

I remember Michael Farber saying (at the time when Burns was still alive) that people wouldn't consider him a HOFer if he didn't have cancer. Also Farber is on the voting board.

Cant remember the rules any longer, and likely they will change it again in the new CBA to help the leafs.

they're not complaining! they were presented this deal and they accepted it. they don't want more.

and this is not a typical business model. you own a car factory, any schmuck can plug a screw into a hole. the labour in the NHL is irreplaceable. they feed the owners as much as the owners feed them.

Bell and Rogers own MLSE now. Hard to see why they wouldn't want them on tv.

Yup, been saying it for quite a while, and just like last time only ones losing is the fans, and it will again prove absolutely nothing and likely make it worse if anything. The bad contracts will still be signed.

I think if there is one, we may see some teams move or fold. Doug Maclean said that the Jackets lost $19 million during the last lockout and probably haven't finished making it up yet.

If there is a lockout/strike it's unlikely it will go past Nov.

true but they are collectively bargained terms of employment for a very specific type of labor and they're well paid becasue they generate huge revenues for the owners.

owners walked away from the last round snapping their suspenders at how they'd totally won. they got the cap they wanted, salary rollbacks, an amnesty for bad deals. the point was the more they made the more everyone would get. now they're making more and they want to go all hungry hungry hippo on a larger piece of the pie and all this becasue they spent the past 4 years trying to circumvent their own rules.

(frank) them.

Id be will to guess that almost 1/3 the owners are losing money though.

When they said the new CBA was for 6 years with a 7th option year, things were not on the right path.
