Yeah, that was pretty douchey. 1+ seasons is not enough to warrant jersey retirement.
- mcmanmat

do you think they would have a league wide retiring of gretzky's number if he wore 12 or something?

besides what's douchey about it?

Brodeur will sign in Vancouver.

Luongo will be traded to the Devils.

nah. he deserved it from both. besides if he wore a number like 10, 7 or 24 they would not have retired it.

easy to retire 77.

not really the reason a jersey should be retired.

and it wasn't entirely. he was a star player that put in a great year and half with the organization and after winning the cup with them in his last game ever, why not?

nice gesture. just one made easier by his number.

For a guy who had 60 or so records at one point? Yeah, I think they would.

What's douchey about it? Seriously? He played 94 regular season games for them, and you think that's enough to retire the jersey?

Not sure why you make such a big deal out of this. The Colorado Avalanche just basically said "We are proud that you played with us and won a stanley cup in Colorado. Thank you, we won't forget that and we'll retire your jersey to honor your amazing career".

Should the league retire his jersey?

Along with Chris Pronger's, of course.

I'm not in favor of league wide retirements in any case. It's just silly.

The only other player who could have had his number retired league-wide would have been a healthy Mario Lemieux.

And still, if Gordie Howe's 9 isn't retired everywhere, no one's should be.

And, of course, every player that played for the Flyers
