If we had done so a long time ago we wouldn't have 200 years to set up the quality of life and reputation that we have now.
That is not going to change as our people do not have the same nature as Americans do.

What i see as no problem with becoming more like America is in the government taking advantage of a collapsed USA Economy and trying to distance themselves and become more independant from the US, and establishing themselves as a top Economy.

It's hard to take advantage of your biggest commercial partner when its economy is down the poopter. And trust me, I know what I'm talking about, as I work on a daily basis with Americans.

We were too reliant on the US buying our resources, now we are distances ourselves from the US by finding other clients, and in a small part refining our products.

By becoming economically independant of the US we are becoming more like them.
