MAB/Gus aren't gonna be sitting as the 7th d-man... they either make the top 6 or play for the Phantoms don't they? Which leaves Lilja as the 7th d-man regardless of the situation.

What am I missing there?

Bourdon would have to clear Waivers to be sent to the AHL. And would likely be claimed.

The problem is, Bourdon can't be sent down to the Phantoms anymore without clearing waivers first. They'll be forced to carry 2 extra defensemen unless one is moved.

What kind of cap hit is Parise looking at? 10 years 70 mill?

Brad Richards was the big offensive fish last year and got 9 years 60 mill

I don't think it's a lock, but I think the odds are good he returns. The thing is that things can happen, and a team can decide to go in another direction.

*** I know there are other off season figures involved, but I would be okay with these moves. Would be foregoing the puck moving d-man they need but heading into the season I would feel comfortable with this roster knowing there is the ability to acquire a d-man during the season. This would be one hell of an offense!

This is with waiving Shelley as well.

Thoughts?

Bill awesome read especially the part about Stolarz. I'm excited to read about the rest of the picks.

Question on the calculations. If the the Pronger LTIR allowance allows them to exceed the capspace by the difference of current cap space and Prongers cap hit. Wouldn't that effectively give them a 73.91 mill cap to play with?

And with your suggested players resigned that would leave the flyers at 68.987 cap - and wouldn't they have like 4.92 ish of cap space?
Or am i just wishful thinking here?

Doesn't apply until he can officially be put on LTIR, which is close to the start of the season. So right now, they don't have that allowance. They do however have an allowance in the offseason that you can exceed the cap I believe.

so no Parise huh? damn.
- flyersfan51

Only if Homer stands pat...

Parise or another high priced guy is not necessarily out of the picture... Carle, Voracek, Jagr have yet to be signed. Homer may decide or the decision is made for him (these guys asking too much) that one of these guys don't resign.

If Carle/Jagr doesn't resign... Homer can either bundle Carle's $4.75MM with existing funds (includes not signing Jagr) and go get a Parise or another forward at the risk of playing Gus/Bourdon/Lilja at the 6 and 7th spots.

Homer could also go the route of a trade, to pick up another high dollar winger (like rumored Nash, Ryan, etc...) If - assuming he signs Carle - Homer trades another vet defenseman like Coburn or Meszaros. You'd still be with Gus/Bourdon/Lilja at the 6 and 7th spots. But, the trade would create room for the guy coming back in the trade. Likewise, goes for trading away Voracek.

No clue on the exact date, but it's right up against the start of the season. Well after free agency is completed.

ideally i'd like to just sign Parise -- but I highly doubt it so I'd do this:

Read/Meszaros and a 2nd rounder for Ryan
sign Schultz to replace Meszaros.

if the bonus cushion timeframe the time the flyers are able to put 20 on LTIR overlap... then there shouldn't be a prob.

I think they could get Garrison cheaper and he brings a big shot on the power play that Carle does not. Overall they are both solid dmen.

Shelley has to go

I think they will be fine without Jagr and with Shelley gone they could add Burrish(needed grit, lappy type) and Kyle Wellwood(help on the pp and 54% on draws)

Plenty of cash at the deadline for a big offenseive upgrade with Pronger(LTIR) and Schenn not reaching his bounus

Kind of get the feeling this is kinda how things are sitting right now offensively...

Plan A: Sign Parise
Plan B: Trade for Ryan
Plan C: Re-sign Voracek

I agree.

I have a feeling they miss on Parise, but answer with trading for Ryan.

Well the amount you can exceed the cap in the offseason is for the offseason and the LTIR is for the regular season. I would assume they do not overlap one another but they could run right up against one another. Meaning, the minute the offseason ends, the regular season starts.

I dunno why but I have a weird feeling they are going to land Parise. Just this growing suspicion developing.

Time will tell
