No Shanahan either. Is there a limit per year like in baseball or something?
- MBFlyerfan

Yes, 4.

Shanny due next year. Lindros likely too.

Does anyone know who is 1st time eligible next year??

Flyers need to push hard for Parise, and wait for Weber next year when Kimmo and hsrtnell are off the books. Carle will not be able to re-sign, but gotta keep Voracek. This team is built around an offensive-forechacking system. Parise is a perfect fit, not to mention a career long partner for Giroux.

This team needs to play better team-D. No other d-man bsides a top tier (Weber) will have an impact. What they have now on D is as good as its gonna get. I have hopes for Schenn. He is the big body we needed. Hipeguly he can be re-vitalized.

Yes, that's even more criminal.

Lindros' time will come, but who knows if The Fog will ever get the call.

First of all a herniated disk ended my profession and while I'm not a proffessional athlete my job was very impact oriented to say the least.

Overpaying for defense? How do you figure this? Maybe when you look at Kimo's salary but he's int the last year and he's only 2/3's the player he was when we signed him. Furthermore you're completely overlooking the fact he might miss half the season with the surgeries he's getting. Defensemen are the most important part of your team's success, overpaying a little maybe. But with the injuries this team incurs in that area the added investment is worthwhile.

Ryan isn't worth Voracek+Mezaros/or any other top 4 defenseman + picks when scoring wasn't an issue with this team and team defense and injuries were AND Ryan is known to "cut corners" defensively see Randy Carlyle's doghouse.

- JoeRussomanno

With the current defense the cheapest player is Grossmann at 3.5 million. The second cheapest is Schenn at 3.6 million. That is WAY to much to paying a 3rd pairing. Forget Timonen and his contract. Replace that next year with the 6.5 you get, or resign him for a year or 2 at a cheaper price. There is nothing wrong with young players playing 3rd pairing on the cheap. Every team has them. I couldnt think of 1 team that has the lowest pairing cost 7.1 million.

And I think Ryan and a 3rd is worth Voracek and Meszaros. Not overpayment at all for someone that can score 30 in his sleep. Forget the Philly love part of it.

Voracek and Mez? Not even close to what Ryan could get.

Give me a guy that scores 30 goals over a guy that gets 30 points every day of the week. Its one thing to get your stick on the puck when someone like Crosby is finishing it off for you. Shelly could get 30 points playing with Giroux.
- RooNosHockey

The guy who scores 30 doesn't score those goals if the guys making the plays before he get's the puck on his stick, don't make those plays. It's a team game.

Bill, or any other Buzz-ard that can answer this question... If there is an off-season cap allowance meaning you're allowed to go over 10% of the total cap so 10% of 70.3MM, which gives you 7MM, and as you stated the off-season cap is about 77.3MM. Why isn't it advisable to use that space, especially in the situation where as soon as you can LTIR, Pronger will be first in line. I'm sure Homer and his team can get creative enough that they can go over the limit now and still LTIR our walking wounded and remove enough space to get cap compliant.

And one injury and suddenly your 3rd pair is basically a Rookie and Lilja, or another Rookie. And again, if Timonen is not the player injured, now minutes have to be extended again. There is no such thing as having too much depth, or spending too much on Defense. The Flyers really don't have a true #1 defenseman without Pronger. So as of now, they will be going the depth route.

So your saying that a guy that scores 3 goals and 30 assists is a better player then a guy that scores 30 goals and 3 assists?

Because you come in and comment on 1 portion of a conversation that had other revelancy... You know what... Never mind, dont bother answering. I never spoke to someone so frustrating, and I used to work with special ed kids.

I think all you guys are great and respect all your opinions.

But is there anyway we can get a Bobby Ryan holiday for the next 2 or 3 days?

Maybe wecan talk about Buddy Ryan. At least it will be something new, instead of puking in a bowl and stirring it for 3 days.

Other potential topics:

Best Flyer with skill that can fight
Most likely to score 30 first
Flyer most likely to blast nastiest fart

I think you can, as long as you don't get in a position of having to make a trade from a severe disadvantage in getting Cap compliant. And remember in figuring out off season Cap space. Pronger counts. And if your going to figure out LTIR space, he counts also.

Not saying that at all. I'm saying that the assists are just as important as the goals. It's a team game. All the little plays behind the goals that you deem as not carrying the same weight. Are of the utmost importance. It's why a team like LA was so good. They played a connected team game all over the ice. Made the plays that led to the goals. So many subtle plays are made on the ice that are ignored. And only the guy who put the puck in the net is seen as important.
