If your talking about Gus, I would rather have him in the AHL too if Bourdon beats him out. Not only is he waiver exempt, the cap hit wouldnt apply.
- RooNosHockey

Its a no brainer for the Flyers. If Gus doesn't win a top 6 spot he will be sent down as Bourdon and Lilja basically cant. They are not going to risk losing Bourdon.

They want a scorer, no doubt.

I really think you are going to far with this. He is a Good player. He is not an 80 point player. I saw him take many games off this season.
- Jimmygrazz

Thats a lot of points. Voracek would need to score more goals to even get close to that number.

Hard to tell. They're obviously heavily interested.

They might try and make a big push for Parise first though.

The Red Wings have begun their chase to sign free agent defenseman Justin Schultz. With Niklas Lidstrom lost to retirement and Brad Stuart signing with the Sharks, general manager Ken Holland is ready to give the 21-year-old a guaranteed roster spot and responsibility from the get-go. "We've contacted his agents to express the Detroit Red Wings are interested in signing him to a contract,'' Holland said. "We think there's a tremendous opportunity in Detroit. ... We're trying to rebuild on the fly. We think he would be a good fit.''

If you didn't mean 80 you shouldn't have said 80. With that being said, I don't think he hits 70 either.

JOP OPENING FOR HOCKEYBUZZ POSTERS:

The Red Wings are in the market for a new assistant, and they want one with experience. The 38-year-old Jeff Blashill joined Mike Babcock's staff last summer and helped coach the power play, but he decided to take over as the bench boss for Detroit's AHL team. "I know what I want," Babcock said. "I'm not going to overthink this. If I can find that guy and he has experience, I'll hire him. If I find him and he doesn't have experience, I'll hire him. I want a good hockey man who has passion."

The only point I'm making is that people are obsessed about how Detroit does things and yet there ready to give Schultz the opportunity without knowing how he holds up with zero NHL experience. This kid must be the real deal.

My guess is he lands in Toronto.

If I were him, I'd choose New York or Philly. Who the hell wants to live in Edmonton.

I honestly think the Flyers have interest in Parise but even if they sign him they would have to move someone to fit him in.

NHL Players' Association executive director Donald Fehr believes the season can begin on time even without a new collective bargaining agreement in place.
About 50 players, including Jonathan Toews, Alex Ovechkin Brian Campbell and Shea Weber met with Fehr on Monday in Chicago to go over plans for the their side of the CBA talks. Meetings will last through Wednesday. The current CBA expires Sept. 15 and the biggest negotiating point is likely to be revenue sharing. "There's plenty of time to negotiate an agreement between now and Sept. 15," Fehr said. "By the way, there's nothing magic about Sept. 15. The law is if you don't have a new agreement, as long as both sides are willing to keep negotiating you continue under the terms of the old one until you reach an agreement."

Zero chance of that. If they sign Parise which I think is less likely than trading for Ryan then they may be forced to trade a player to clear some space.

Why isn't it? Your telling me that a defenseman that breaks up a play, outlets the pass to a forward to set up a counterattack, or an odd man rush, that leads to that forward passing the puck to another forward for a goal, isn't worth the same weight? The whole play doesn't happen if not for the secondary assist. That's another one of the myths that you read on Hockeybuzz.
- MJL

I was just about to post the same thing. IMO, the secondary assist is normally the most important play in the sequence to allow the goal to happen.

The Calculations aren't impossible. It's relatively simple. The information of how many days a player spent on the roster is available at Capgeek.

For example, Schenn spent 165 days on the Flyers roster last year. Last the Season was 185 days. So the calculation is

$3,110,000/185 x 165 = 2,773,783. That is the Off Season Cap hit for Brayden Schenn
