There is no room.
Coburn-Grossman
Timonen-Schenn
Meszaros-Carle/FA signing
Lilja
and MAB needs to clear waivers to go back down the the Phantoms. - Flyers2821
What's wrong with them keeping both? You dont think they waive Lilja if they like them both that much? |

And in the Pittsburgh series he completely shut-down Malkin on 3 consecutive shifts who is not only one of the best on the planet, but he towers over Gus.
Gus is our 7th man until further notice. - mochoson
Why in the world would you sit Gus on the bench as the 7th d-man? How does that help him or the team in any way shape or form? |

I dont question whether or not he can do it a shift or even 10 shifts. I'm more concerned with him holding up over an entire season and seeing if he can play consistantly at this level. |

It will come down to who's better in training camp as to who makes the team. Also MAB is subject to waivers, I think. |

And what sit their two best prospect d-men on the bench as back ups? Why on earth would they do that? |

The same it helps having any other dman be your 7th man. He has nothing more to gain from being in the AHL |

How about... playing? You would rather Gus just be sitting in the press box every game than down in the AHL actually playing games? |

I think they should offer Bourdon or Gus/Cousins/1st round pick. Keep all your assests. Flyers are in no rush to acquire Ryan so they can sit back and build the rest of their team through UFA. If the Ducks are willing to lower the asking price like the offer I suggested then I would make the move. - stveshdy
I think you're thinking right, just don't think that offer gets it done. I agree with most, if it's clear that he wants to play in Philly when he becomes a FA just wait it out. You don't NEED his offense. |

With the way our guys get injured I don't think Gus will be on the bench that much. |

Just because Holmgren keeps saying he is confident they are going to re-sign Carle does not mean anything. Since when did we take Holmgren for his word? Him coming out and saying he is confident they are going to re-sign Carle actually implies to me that they are not going to re-sign him. - Flyers2821
Carle's agent, and more importantly, the player himself, have said the same thing.
While anything is possible, Carle's return seems very likely.

Gus' ceiling is that of a bottom pairing dman. Hes exactly where he should be on a deep team. |

I believe that deal doesnt get it done either which is why I think the Flyers will look in another direction. The asking price is too high right now. |

Patrik Elias said he's our best forward other then Giroux.
I think Patrik Elias knows more about hockey then just about everyone in here combined x9834983 - mochoson

Lilja is a 40 year old veteran in the league. Young players don't get any better by sitting on the bench.
To compare Lilja and Gus just shows your off your rocker with this one. |

How many AHL games have they played? How good are the Phantoms?
You wanna send back down guys that paid their dues on a terrible farm team who don't deserve it? You wanna send down guys who actually played better in the NHL then then did in the AHL?
I'm sure Gus and MAB would be thrilled if either had to go back to playing for the juggernaut that is the Phantoms. |

My only concern is expecting all these players to put up the same number of goals b/c that isn't happening. So the Flyers better get their butts in check defensively and they wont have to score more goals. |

we already know Timmonen's start date is up in the air. With the way our D is set up I don't see the need to rush him back. Good lord how many years know has he been ground to a pulp come april? |

It has nothing to do with how good the Phantoms are and everything to do with them actually playing in games... i don't even know how I got caught up in such an absurd argument.
