Lou doesn't want to waive for the Leafs??? the feeling is mutual. - burn
Lu wants Florida, When Florida shows no interest because Markstrom will be here for them soon, he will have to expand his list, prob keep Leafs off it then aswell seeing the beehive of toronto media so far and not wanting anything to do with that.

I thought I read he wants to play on a Canadian team, and if he truly is demanding top 4 minutes like some of the rumours are suggesting... we can cross Detroit off the list too
Calgary would make sense also - ejeezy
Calgary right now seems like the Leafs of 2005. Doubt Schultz signs there. My gut is starting to tell me Schultz will be a Leaf, too. The Schenn trade created a roster spot, and I would think one of Franson, Gunnar or Liles may be on the way out in another deal. The dots do seem to connect with Toronto, and the whole rumour about wanting to play in the West may have been a smokescreen just to settle down the tampering talk that flared up a few months ago. |

LOL, come on now, in every teams forum (not just ours) it's a frenzy of what can get for what, that's what hockey is all about, we are no different than 29 other teams fans, were just hated more.

Definitely won't hurt when Burke heads over to the Newport offices with Schultz's buddy Jake in tow, probably will bring JVR along as well....not that Jake and Justin haven't already spoken about this before today. |

This Luongo situation is a farce of epic proportion... The story changes week to week and everything is speculation. What is Gillis' motivation to go into the season with Luongo? To squeeze out and extra 2nd or 3rd rounder from a team? Like really who gives a poop.
In my mind a fair trade is an average roster player, a teams 2nd or 3rd ranked prospect and a salary dump to make the cap work. For the Leafs something like Franson, Connolly and Blacker/Holzer would be a fair trade
If Gillis' thinks he's getting a Jake Gardiner he's just flat out insane and holding out until Sept or Oct won't get him Gardiner. Aside from the massive upside Gardiner posses he is the Leafs ticket to acquiring Schultz. |

Nash isn't coming here. I could see Burke possibly taking a run at Parise though and then moving Lupul in a package for a center (Stastny maybe), but even that's going to be a stretch because unless he has a gentleman's agreement with a trade partner, that's a whole lot of wingers and not a lot of salary cap.
I think Burke's more likely to take a run at Suter and fill a stay-at-home void on the backend. Suter and Dion would be a pretty awesome pairing. |

Yeah, I think it'll be something like D'Amigo, Komisarek, and a 2nd. |

That's the problem right there. Gillis is convinced he should be getting a player or two (that's a key here) like Gardiner or the equivalent from which ever team is interested. Florida has already said publicly that they will not part with their top prospects. Puts Gillis in a bind...unless he really does keep Luongo, in which case, give Schneider a 5 year, $23 million offer sheet. I know Vancouver will likely match, but they'll have almost 10 million tied up in their two goalies. |

I really think it has a lot to do with personality. I don't think Gillis wants to deal with Burke unless he hits a homerun and comes out the 'winner', which I just don't see happening in this situation. I actually believe Burke when he says he won't overpay. IMO, Gillis is dealing with Burke/Nonis' shadow in Vancouver - for the most part they built the team that he is caretaking, and he doesn't want to give them what they need unless he 'one ups' them. |

Also a fair trade, if Gillis was dead set against taking Komisarek and who could blame him then he takes Armstrong or Lombardi. Komi could be bought out through amnesty over the summer. |

I could understand that position, really. Imagine completing a merely average trade for one of your more high profile players with two of the teams former GMs who were both ceremoniously thrown out of the city years ago. |

Yeah you're right there too... But if Gillis thinks he's getting the better of Burke in a trade he's sorely mistaken..
The options are not very plentiful.. But if you believe the Van fans teams are lining up |

I think you get a pretty good sense of the Canuck's fan base by spending time with the deep thinkers in Esplen's thread. There is such a strong anti-central Canada fixation and they hate the idea of the leafs "winning the deal" for Luongo more than they hate the idea of having him back.
I don't think he has submitted an actual list but may have decided that Florida is his first choice. Tallon has made it clear that he won't pay much. The only other team interested is the Leafs and here too, Burke has made it clear that he won't pay much.
Seem to be three options:
1) Gillis relents and makes deal for scraps with Florida -- makes Luo and Canuck fans happy.
2) Burke offers something more that Tallon offers and he comes here -- Canuck fans claim huge victory because it is more than just Komi
3) He stays |

I don't think Florida has the money to take on the contract, annually and in the long term. No clue how much they lose every year but my guess is in the 20-30 million range.. adding Luongo does not seem feasible. Also add to the fact they have a goaltending prospect they'd like to get a good look at.

I am fully expecting and convinced that Burke will have a new 1C in place for september........ The question is who??
By saying a 1C, I am not necessarily implying a bona fide 1C. Just someone different than Bozak
Who do you think he snags?? - faceto27
Yah, probably Doan or Gaustad. |

thats the problem with our defense, when we play teams like boston/philly/LA etc, we're going to get out-muscled along the boards thus meaning the puck stays in our end 10 minutes per period - peddy-93
Yeah but our breakout will be scary, nevermind the blueline action on the PP. |
