what is the so called rumor that cbj gm turned down ? nash and 2nd for what? - HAMgerber
All 7 of the Islanders picks for the #2 overall. |

Holmgren only gave them Richards, who didnt even contribute that much to the cup win. I still do those trades any day of the week - Richieattack18
In the long run I think it's a trade that benefitted both teams. |

It actually looks more like it was for Murray, since they used all of those picks on defencemen.
Agreed though, it's kind of surprising because up until now, I always figured Snow wasn't that bad. People pile on him for Dipietro but that was Wang's doing. - S Kaspar Rollins
I don't think Snow is the greatest of GMs, but I do not think he deserves all the crap he does get either.
That meddling incompetent owner is the real problem. |

Man, I think that Pavelec deal could end up being to the 2012 lockout what Bobby Holik was to the 2005 one. Brutal deal.
I'm sure it will be far surpassed in stupidity next week, but still. - S Kaspar Rollins
The two are nowhere near comparable. |

As far as I can tell he's drafted okay at least, and made a few decent deals. |

Ok I was exaggerating, but basing it on the rhetoric being thrown around by people shaking their heads at what a bad deal it is.
The real symbolic CBA killer will probably come next week. |

He has made some good drafts picks and some interesting signings, but nothing spectacular overall in trying to improve the team.
The Depietro contract hurt them, not so much the contract/cap impact, but the lack of decent goaltending with him always injured.
(Not that Depietro was going to be the solution anyways.)
And not playing to the cap either limits their ability to add talent.

I figured he would get about and average of ~$3.5... $3.9 is not that far off, really. |

I actually don't think it's that bad.....Pavelec is very good, and you knew the Jets would probably have to overpay a little to keep him in WPG. It's not exactly the paradise you'd think it is..... |

Walsh negotiated the deal with the intent of placing him above Schneider and Rask. Is he really worth as much as those guys? |

Replace Schenn with Couturier, but that still leaves the Flyers with Bryzgalov....

His numbers don't suggest he's very good at all, at least not right now.
Just because you have to overpay doesn't mean you should. |

I agree. It was a good hockey trade |

The deal wasn't for Murray; it was conditional on Yakupov falling to #2. And if that were the case, it would have been worth it. This is a particularly weak draft, especially in terms of depth, so you'd think each guy after the first round has a relatively low percentage of making the NHL. I'd have punted a weak draft (i.e. 6 low-end prospects) for a chance at a #1 overall-type player. I wouldn't have done it for Murray, but I'd have done it for Yakupov. |

Well, I would say yes - given games played, decent stats (in front of some poopty defensive teams).
Maybe not 2-3 years from now, but currently yes.

It's not always about numbers though....lest we forget it IS Atlanta/Winnipeg he was playing for. Just watch the kid....wicked reflexes and post-to-post movement. |
