Could be Tallon trying to get the leafs to give up more. TML are one of his main competitors for the 8 playoff spots. if we get better without giving up much in assets, they lose ground.

i'm sure we want one of gudbranson, ellerby or kulikov to get anything done

who's to say the canucks don't take theodore back, seeing as they would need a back up

the other 2 guys i could see them asking for are mattias or santorelli, with kesler out for the beginning of the season and a big hole at 3rd line center vancouver is quite shallow down the middle

Why would any team want that contract? Florida needs to say no.

They need to create an amnesty clause in the new CBA. One buyout per team, one per season.

- houseofcards74

No. No they don't!

Why should teams who can't resist signing these ridiculous contracts receive any help, when other teams have remained disciplined? Where and how would teams not using said amnesty benefit? Shouldn't they be rewarded or receive some form of compensation?

It's time for GM's and ownership to be accountable for their actions. What good will it do if they're bailed out every (frank)in' time? When will they ever learn?

Lastly, if you're referring to a Luongo buyout, I'm pretty sure that Aquilino with have something to say about cutting Luongo a $60M cheque when he knows that Gillis could trade Luongo away for ANYTHING just to get him off the books.

theo and clemmenson overperformed last year.

i say you let clemmenson walk and bring markstrom up to backup theo this yr... then let markstrom take over the following yr and bring in a vet goalie like garon(hes only got one yr left with the bolts) or biron or something to back him up and mentor him.

I'm fairly certain that you or any of us have no clue as to what the verbage of a possible amnesty clause would contain. Also, almost every team has signed a player to a stupid contract from Wade Redden to DiPietro to Leino to Finger. Lastly, it is spelled check. That is all.

I'm not married at all to him. In fact, I've been less than enthused about the numbers he has put up since coming to North America. But, it is widely known that he is the "goalie of the future." His health is a concern, especially with knee issues at such a young age, but there is no doubt he's a potential superstar. Would Tallon really be willing to sign him to another more lucrative deal only to see him backup Luongo for 5-6 years? Seems like a terrible plan to me.
- spiegs13

Hasn't it been said in numerous NHL circles that Marksrtom is the best goalie in the world not in the NHL?

From the couple games I saw of this kid, he looks like he real deal....... I too hope Tallon comes to his senses and forgets Luongo and looks to Markstrom.

Just as an FYI, Tallon was the guy who signed Cristobal Huet to a bad contract in Chicago.

I don't think it's fair that teams can bury players in the minors or europe and puff, the money is off the cap. An owner signing a huge buyout check once or twice will be enough of a punishment for an owner, believe me. The punishment for these buyouts for GMs will be losing their job.

Obviously, but it's the bottom line of the clause and what it means.

And no, there are a number of teams that don't have overly ridiculous contracts to the point that they would utilize the amnesty. There isn't a single contract on the Leafs that Burke would consider buying out given: A. He's just traded for "X" player B. He's just signed "X" player C. The amount of term remaining on "X" contract.

FYI... Finger is off the Leafs books.

Ellerby, Santorelli, and Theodore are what gets it done, I think. Gillis wants Bjugstad though, and that is just not happening. In regards to our goal scoring next season, hello Jonathan Huberdeau. Hello Quinton Howden (maybe).

Here are some of the players not coming back next season:
Barch, Clem, Samuelsson, Garrison, Sturm, Wolski, Madden. So much money off the books. Would you guys believe that we are still paying for Ville Peltonen?!?!? Exactly. This is setting up to be just like last season, where we sign 3-5 forwards at too much money to fill in the holes. I like Doan. I like Penner. Parise we aren't getting close too. I would LOVE to have Bobby Ryan here. Regardless of who's starting in goal next season, Markstrom will be the back up. What happens after next season if Theodore isn't here any more? Do we we re-sign Theo as our back up to Markstrom? I am comfortable with Luongo starting while Markstrom backs him up. But, how long does that happen for? Certainly, since he will apparently only waive to come here, we can make it clear to him that after x amount of season, this is Markstrom's crease. but then you're paying 5 mil+ to the guy while he's on the bench. What to do, what to do.

Yes, he is considered by many to be that good. I'm definitely not saying anything to the contrary. But his development has been hindered by injury that past two seasons and he has had his share of stinkers in the AHL. But he should only get better, and if common sense prevails here he will be the starting netminder for the Florida Panthers in two years, and many more years after that.

I say bring him up to back up Theo, either re-sign Theo to back him up after that. We will have TONS of $$$ to spend on offense, especially since JG isn't coming back apparently. What a piece of crap he turned out to be.

I think Ellerby, Santorelli and Theo is fair for Luongo. Though i would love bjugstad (longshot) Howden (maybe) or Gudbranson (better chance in me winning the lotto)

And are you surprised that that douche bag Garrison will end up in Vancouver?

Seems like a perfect match to me!

I'm seriously bitter about it. No one knew who he was until 6 months ago, and now he gets cocky about the money. I hope whoever signs him gets the 4G and 6A out of him we know he's going to put him. Campbell made him look better than he really is.

Why should I be bitter about Garrison?

I just think it's bullsh!t how Garrison has handled himself.

According to Canucks fans, Lack is apparently "the best goalie not in the NHL!"

Sure hope he's the answer in the next year or two before the Canucks' cup window closes!

i'm betting you think that schultz is behaving just fine. in fact, i'm sure, you'll label him as a "character guy," AS LONG as he signs with the leafs.

he's an over indulgent whiny suck if he doesn't sign with them right?

Scooby Doo and the rest of the Canuck management team will be here shortly to inform you who would represent appropriate payment for this elite goalie. You best just pay the man or it could get ugly.
