Everyone was female dogging it about defense now you guys are ready to give up a 2/3 D man for more scoring and replace him with a 22 year old coming off a terrible season? I don't understand.
- Ethan1122

Wait. Who's this 22 year old who's coming off a bad year that you speak of that we all want?

But is it worth giving up an NHL defenseman and maybe Voracek for 20-30 extra goals? Jagr could be brought back and/or another forward that could equal 50 with Voracek.
- NickTheKid87

I would love to have Bobby Ryan here. But so far ALL of the deals I have seen discussed are vast overpayment.

I don't like weakening an already weaker part of the team to strengthen the part that is already pretty strong. That is as simple as I can put my reluctance.

I DO like that they may be in on the Shultz thing, but even that is really shooting in the dark. The kid is a great prospect and if it all works out it would be awesome.

But Shultz seems to be another in a long list of names that seem to be bandied around in here like they are the second coming of Christ.

Shultz, Nash, Parise, Wideman, Yandle, Suter, man we get a name in our minds and all of the sudden it is trade the world, or sign him to 7 million a year, he will score 90 goals playing 3 on 5!

The ONLY name that should be on the above list in W.E.B.E.R.

And if it not Weber, then hold on to our players, and get some defensive help from the forward side...Maybe sign a third pair guy with some edge who will compete for the 6th d-man spot.

Yea but jake is gonna get a decent raise I think so let's just say he makes 1.5 mill less then Ryan I think I'd rather have Ryan And if we trade jake and mezzy for Ryan we would be saving more cap space

How do you guys think Ryan compares to Carter and Richards? I've been using Staal trade as a comp, but Carter, Richards and Kessel are also good comparisons.
- TheGreat28

I think that both Carter and Richards are better overall players then Ryan is.

I say Ryan would easily push for 50 goals playing with g
- griouxmvp2012

In Anaheim, he's played with a Hart Trophy winner and a center who has topped 50 assists four times as his linemates and has never topped 35 goals in a seaspm.

I think he might be able to get 38-40 goals in a given season if he plays with Giroux but a 15 goal jump from his best season to date? Unlikely, IMO.

Any idea why the Coaches play him 23-25 minutes a game if he gets beat over and over, and there is more bad plays then good plays?
- MJL

Because the scouts in here know more than Laviolette. Don't you read? Can you imagine if Detroit, that joke of a franchise who have been BRUTAL at evaluating talent since the mid 90's, signed a stiff like Carle to 5 mil per.

The reaction of the HB Carle scout/talent evaluators would be swift and sure. Detroit would have to fire their entire staff and hire the HB geniuses in order to save their struggling franchise.

In line with a recent blog, the grass is very much greener out in Anaheim. There's a lot of people convinced that Ryan is a star player.

Luke Schenn. Don't get me wrong, I would love to get Ryan but not for Mesz or Coburn.

Overall, yes. Carter and Richards have the better 2 way game but over time I think Bobby Ryan will be the clear cut favorite offensively.

I would agree, especially re: Richards. Ryan is basically a more advanced JVR but still has some holes in his game and is prone to disappearing at times. Carter was overrated defensively by John Stevens, but is still better as a two-way player than Ryan is. Ryan won't kill you defensively, but he's not as good in that area as Voracek.

What's better?
A) To have an Art Ross player on your team in Giroux and a Maurice Richard trophy winner on his wing in Ryan

or

B) Well balanced scoring depth throughout the lineup & a Stanley Cup

Stamkos had a great season last year...and not one playoff game.

- Pixote Andolini

I don't care if we have not one 30 goal scorer as long as we win the cup. The las two champs have shown that it's the old recipe of defense and goaltending that wins the cup. LA couldn't score at all most of the year. They won with defense and fantastic goaltending. Once they added Carts they were a bi more balanced on O, but they didn't run and gun score the lights out even in th finals. They snuck in to the playoffs and the backbone of defense, goalending and timely goals won them a cup. That's part of why I think trading for Ryan, would be flash and no substance when it comes to winning in the playoffs. I would like us to sign an RW (maybe Jags) get a depth dman a backup and go from there. I don't want to lose assets. If we can get a Schultz ufa great.

Quick quesion. Someone mentioned Shelley. Isn't he off the books now? I thought he was on a 2 year 2.2 mil deal?

Yes but we'd also hurt part of our team that is already hurting while strengthening an offense that was 2nd best on the league.

Ryan is a very good player. But he also plays with very good players out there. I just don't see this huge goal scoring explosion that some seem to predict if he comes here.

Honestly. I'd rather have both Meszaros, Coburn, Carle and Grossmann over Luke Schenn. I like Schenn but I'll go on record right now in saying it wasn't a move the Flyers had to make. The Leafs needed the help up front. In my mind, this pick up is just a show for the city of brotherly love. We needed a Weber or Yandle. I think this trade throws a wrench into certain plans moving forward.

Getzlaf isn't as good of a pure playmaker as Giroux, but he's no slouch in that department, either. Both Ryan and Perry owe a significant piece of their success to their center.

If they get him at 4.5 or less as has been reported in some places......Homer should just put his name on the GM of the year trophy right now.

I dont think they trade for Ryan till after free agency. They will see what kind of deal can be done after they get what they need to do the deal in FA. If not guess ryan is a duck for another year....quack.
