Why is that?

just watching him get beat over and over bothers me. I see more bad plays from Carle than good plays.

really? maybe not the first rounder? I think Meszaros can be replaced for cheaper.
- flyersfan51

I do wonder why Coburn would be so tempting in the Ducks current situation. Meszaros in my mind would fit right in to replace Visnovsky. Obviously a lesser Visnovsky but during a full season, Meszaros would put up the proper points with more PP time and Meszaros isn't horrid defensively.

I love stuff like this:

Cool stuff. It also has to be said that Carle plays in an offensive system while Suter does not which can contribute to their offensive output. Regardless, Carle's value is far greater than Suter's considering how much Suter will be making.

My view on Bobby Ryan is simply this.

He wants to be here. He hasn't lived up to his full potential due to lack of help offensively (Playing the second PP unit and Getzlaf is often hurt). I think in the right situation he could be a 50 goal scorer and a consistent one. Let's not forget this guy was picked second overall to Sidney Crosby. If this guy is stuck at only scoring 30 a season, this isn't a far cry from JvR not being able to get over the hump after being picked second to Patrick Kane. In my opinion we're in need of a sniper, which I don't think we've had since Jeff Carter. For me, I just wouldn't do it at the cost of Coburn. I'm not sure where we would have been without him in the playoffs. I do like Jake Voracek but I'm not crazy about him signing one year deals to get a raise the next year. I don't want to pay 3 plus million for Voracek at all. I'm not saying he's a bad player but I am saying we could use a guy who knows how to put the puck into the net.

- Schenn2shine

what sniper is out there that the flyers could get. I agree with Voracek -- he's going to get 3+, i'd rather give 5.1 to Ryan.

He's also pretty scary in his own end of the ice at times, as Boston and Florida can attest.
- bmeltzer

so is Matt Carle.....unfortunately the D corp out there is thin when talking UFA's.
so although I am not a fan Carle probably will be back at a 5 year 24-25 million dollar deal.
The comparisons ....Garret...wideman....I would probablt just resign Carle as well. I don't think he's a 5 mill. talent....but its not my $...

I'm surprised Schultz hasn't been signed yet.....

But in regards to Bobby Ryan, he's averaging over 30 goals a year, is the deal mentioned above enough? I don't think so.

- flyersfan51

Using Staal trade:

Coburn > Sutter (2-3 d-man > than 3rd line center)
Cousins/Laugton < Dumoulin (Dumoulin is closer to the show and higher rated)
Carolina 1st > Phil 1st (ours would be low-round

So let's say they offered either Gusty/Bourdon or a 2nd round pick. Maybe both.

The point is I think Jake plus Coburn/Mesz is too much.

That's because good defensive plays are hard to pick up on. Not making a mistake is a good defensive play.

Very hard for the Flyers to beat the Rangers on a deal for Ryan. The Rangers have some nice Dmen and some strong prospects.

What I don't understand is the rationale behind the Ducks sending Visnofsky to the Islanders. Why would they deal their best Dman if they have a need for Dmen? Is it just a salary dump, or are they setting something up? Also there is some speculation they want picks and prospects, no salary back other than prospects on an ELC.

Why do you say that? Bobby Ryan's godfather is Bobby Clarke. Also specifically said he would prefer to get traded to the flyers. Why would any team trade for him now knowing that he wants to be on another team. You would have to give up prospects plus players for a guy that will be unhappy and leave after three years. No team in their mind would give up as much as the ducks want for him. His stock is plummeting faster than enron. which btw works to the flyers advantage. LOL

Another guy the fans here would hate.
- NickTheKid87

Would they ever. He often got booed in his final season Boston (not just fans on the internet complaining). Wideman is just about the prototype of the defenseman who, in reality, brings some value to his team but a vocal segment of fans tend to dislike because when he makes a gaffe, it's usually noticeable.

How quickly you guys forget how good Mesz is. Voted the best Flyers Defense man 2 years ago and was playing great before the injury this year. Everyone said we needed defense but if we trade Coburn/Mesz for Ryan and try replacing one of them with Luke Schenn our defense gets worse.

if they could trade for Ryan and keep Voracek, wow.....If they could trade Mesz/Laughton/Cousins and 1st for Ryan.....I'd be one happy flyer fan.

then they could sign Carle and have $$ for another D-man possibly....they wouldn't need another forward....I just feel that Read or Voracek are going to go if they are getting Ryan.

The Ducks aren't going to trade him to the Flyers because that's his first choice. They also don't care that Clarke has known him since he was a baby and Holmgren for nearly as long. Anaheim will trade him where they please, depending on the return they receive. Ryan has never said he wouldn't play for the Rangers or any other club, just that Philly might be the ideal situation.

wouldnt Ryan saying Philly is his ideal choice scare some teams? I mean if you give up a lot of talent, you have to have it in the back of your mind that he's probably going to leave to sign with Philly when his contract is up.
