Agreed. Will find out soon enough.

On a quick side note, I think it is just lip service about Leighton possibly coming back even at a lower cap hit. The organization could not have been happy about him withholding his back problem until after he signed his contract, and about him going AWOL after game 6 against Buffalo (supposedly). I really think they look at Biron, Clemmenson, or Roloson.

What happened to the Weber talk? Has Bill stated anything on that? That's the only FA I really don't want to see in O&B.

They're too busy chasing the Bobby Ryan bus dude, tune in when if he get's traded.

No trading Mez unless we're getting a better blueline shot back.

He would be scary next to Giroux, but you seem to score goals alright without him.

So Carle puts up points just by being on the Flyers. Has nothing to do with the plays he makes? Gotcha!

The Flyers shouldn't re-sign Carle then. They should just get any decent puck mover in here then.

- MJL

Well, you need some puck moving types on a team and the UFA market for them is thin this year, so Carle's value, just like Wideman and Garrison's is inflated. If it was more a buyers market for these types of players, I'd say we could likely swap out for a lower $$ D man for that spot...however, the market being what it is, Carle is at $4.5 mil is worth retaining. But again, is Carle really doing anything special or unique to Carle that is keying the Flyers offense? Something that would show he's not so much a product of a strong offensive team but rather a main cause of it ? I'm not sure he brings that kind of game to the table.

So are you guys willing to settle for Wideman when Suter looks on the map and sees cities like Chicago and Detroit are closer to Madison Wisconsin?

And, I wouldn't necessarily take Nash off the table. I believe Homer is going after the best winger possible. He's got a lot of pieces in place, so he's probably not too interested in trading away a bunch of players only to have gaps. So, he'll be looking at UFA first - unless a sweetheart deal drops in his lap. According to Seravalli... The sky's the limit with $9MM. (Not sure why his numbers are so far off of Bill's $3MM cap space)

Frank Seravalli says we've got $9MM to spend on a forward... This includes resigning Voracek (@ $3MM) and Carle (@ $4.5MM). I don't think he's included some of the minor RFA / AHL guys (Sestito/HarryZ./etc..)

1) Start with the capgeek amount of available open cap space ($11,481,627)
2) Subtract Carle re-signing and call it a $4.75 M cap hit
3) Subtract Voracek re-signing and call it a $3.0 M cap hit
4) Subtract backup goalie and call it an $800,000 cap hit
5) Subtract Bourdon resigning and call it $1M
6) Subtract Sestito re-signing and call it about $650,000

That leaves team with $1,281,627 under the cap -- which they will need to exceed to re-sign Jagr or find a comparable replacement -- before you figure in Pronger's LTIR cap allowance (which would amount to about $3.61 million of usable cap space).

The poster said not to move Mez b/c of his shot unless you can find another player who can bring it. Well Garrison does that.

There were a few Twitter rumblings on draft day but then it all disappeared. And I'm with you, Weber is the only big name FA I want to see the Flyers pursue.

If not him, then I think they need to get complimentary pieces that address specific needs. A big defensive forward and a bigger defenseman with some toughness. (That may be Schenn)

So they need to get that big body for the third line whose sole job is to make life miserable for opposing players defensively.

Easy there pal, us guys over 40 are just more seasoned. I think Homer would prefer a veteran back-up with somewhat of a proven track record who will probably cost a million or less. I was just throwing out potential names who fill that bill.

It's obvious that the Coaches want Carle to play top minutes on the team. .
- MJL

Just to further clarify, you had asked another poster "Any idea why the Coaches play him 23-25 minutes a game"? in your post defending Carle. The reality is this season Carle drew top overall TOI for the Flyers for the first time since he was acquired, and it was largely due to injury issues rather than due to coaches preference...even so, it was only avg. 23:01 mins/gm, not 23-25 mins (does every Carle stat get inflated in your mind?).

In prior seasons, when the D corps was healthier, Carle averaged more like 21-22 minutes per game, except when he served as Pronger's partner in Prong's first season here, when he (Pronger) played a ton of minutes (25:55/gm)...in that case Carle averaged 23:23/gm.

I look forward to new characters for the rivalry, October 18th will be must see TV.

I like Ray, he certainly gave Staal a very good contract offer. As a Flyers fan, I can't say that I'm that upset about him being in Carolina with his brother.
