Another way to look at it is:

A very good d-man who spent time on IR last year, a 26 yo undrafted FA and a low 1st round pick.

so are you saying anaheim should ask for more? if so, who/what?

Screw it!!!!! Make that trade. Sign Carle, Salvador and Biron and lets get on with camp. Tired of who is right and wrong. Who is good or not. The chances of us winning the cup are pretty decent. I just want a team that plays hard every night. Not the one that played the devils. I don't care who the name on the back is. I only love the crest on the front.

Ill do it for you.

It means Carter missed 25.3% of the time. and Ryan missed 24.5% of the time.

Result:ANOTHER Carter myth debunked when put in context.

NEXT UP: The list of future Hall of Famers who turned the puck over more than Matt Carle "turnover machine" did last season.

SO the plan is to replace one of our top 4 with a guy that hasn't played a shift in the NHL? If so no thanks.
- JoeRussomanno

Have to give a little to get a little, and they want/need D not offense.

I'd rather at least have an upgrade over Bourdon with a very high ceiling as the fallback position.

Personally, I wouldn't get Ryan, even though I mostly like him. I'd rather re-sign Carle and let the young kids grow another year.

But when Clarke and / or Mr. Snider get an idea in their heads, it is usually inevitable. And we usually end up overpaying. See, Bryzgalov, Ilya.

My mistake. Thought you were asking Y the JvR/Schenn trade was bad. Time to update the prescription.

Exactly. I did a post about this a few years ago. For some reason I just couldn't figure out the formula for getting the percentage. When you take the numbers for the most of the top shot producers in the League. They all miss the net around the same percentage. Give or take a few percentage points. But you get uninformed opinions on issues like this for certain player. Mike Richards actually missed the net a higher percentage of the time here then Carter did.
- MJL

Carter missed a larger portion of the net more often...

For all the bricks out there.... SARCASM!

I think they will ask for more. I HOPE we don't pay it (see my previous comment).

I think they will ask for Coburn, Vorachek and at least 1 1st rounder, maybe plus another pick.

Lets say this rumor is true and the deal does get done. Without thinking about who was traded etc. What do you think of this year's team.

Ryan-Giroux-Jagr
Hartnell-Briere-Voracek
Schenn-Couturier-Simmonds
Wellwood-Talbot-Rinaldo

Timonen-Schenn
Grossmann-Coburn
Carle-Bourdon

Bryz
Birons or other UFA.

Extras: Sestito, Harry Z, Gus, Lilja.

Is it balanced. Is the D stong enough? How is the offense?

- RooNosHockey

Although, Lilja/Gus/Bourdon handled the 6/7 spot's fairly well. I'd drop Jagr and his $3.3MM and spend it on defense upgrade.

Ryan-Giroux-Voracek
Hartnell-Briere-Schenn
Wellwood-Couturier-Simmonds
Sestito (or Harry Z)-Talbot-Rinaldo

(each line is well balanced with guys that go to the net, passers, snipers, speed, defense, toughness, etc...)

On defense. Timmo/Schenn may work well. Coburn/Grossmann worked well last year... But, I'd break them up and put Carle a better puck mover with Grossmann... And, drop Coburn to strengthen the 3 line. Then roll the lines to reduce Timmo's minutes.

Would prefer to see more offensive skill on Couts line. I'm fine with Simmonds but need more than Wellwood. And I'm a big Wellwood fan and liked what he did in the playoffs as a 3rd liner. I just want Couts to grow more next year.

I like Roos lineup with Jagr better.

I just see it as giving a lot to get a little more than what we already have. Ryan's a stud but like you said, we got some kids who deserve a chance to show what they can do. Also a stocked blueline seems like a nice change. If they overpaid for Bryz really remains to be seen. i don't like the length but hey Khabibulin is till playing goood at 39 so whatevs...

I really felt once Luke was obtained, Mezzy's days were numbered here. He is still young. With a cannon of a shot and is very physical. He is a good Dman to have. Schenn is even younger. Shot is not like Mezzy's but probably a little better then creampuff shot of Carles. Very very physical. If Mezzy gets moved to upgrade the Offense some, then I'm ok with it as long as they sign a more reliable dman. Maybe even a Garrison or hell give Bryce Salvador a year for a 3rd pairing. I think Ryan could be very good here. But I'm not giving up anything close that I would for Weber or someone of that nature. ANA can pee up a pole for asking too much.

I just like how much space Jagr opened up for Giroux and Hartnell this year, and I think that he would do even more if it was with Ryan and Giroux. Jagr always drew double coverage and most of the time he was able to feed the puck to Giroux or Hartnell when they got open. Even when Jagr wasn't scoring, he was a key part in why Giroux and Hartnell were. I wouldn't just let him go unless it's absolutley clear that A. He is done and too Old, or B. We know Giroux can do just as well without him.
