He wasn't having to do a whole lot in that Montreal series....

Never gets credit. If that was Bryz people would say how awesome he played.

Per Darren Dreger

Sources say Philadelphia Flyers forward Brayden Schenn has been informed he will be temporarily assigned to the AHL and the motivation behind this move is 100% cap specific.

Schenn's contract, negotiated by the Los Angeles Kings will pay him $900,000 this year, plus $850,000 in entry level 'A' bonuses for a total of $1.75 million, however Schenn has substantial 'B' bonuses included in his deal that would be very cap unfriendly to the Flyers.

The 'B' bonuses in the first two years of his contract pay Schenn $1.265 million and $1.405 million if he plays 25 minutes in each of the 82 regular season games.

These are unlikely, if not impossible bonuses to achieve, although Philadelphia isn't willing to take the chance and face the possibility of having to absorb a cap hit of just over $3 million, so to cut the cap hit to a reasonable $1.75 million for this season, Schenn will be assigned to the Philadelphia Phantoms for at least one game, therefore nullifying the 'B' bonus clause this season.

In the third year of Schenn's contract, he doesn't have to play the 25 minutes in all regular season games to earn a handsome $1.5 million dollar bonus, but to qualify he would have to have an All-Star season, finish among the league's point leaders and win a major award

I don't hold Leighton personally responsible for losing the Cup or anything like that. He played well and was a big part of the team going as far as they did. I just think it's time to move on from him. There was that weirdness about him leaving the team without permission or something, and then the whole lying about his health/injury status as he was signing his new contract. I'm just ready for him to go somewhere else.

I just don't like how Lavy bent over backwards last year to get him in net.

I never said Wellwood would be a 20 goal scorer. I think he has talent though. I'm sorry, but I see Voracek as a more gifted, more physical version of Ville Lieno. I think his top potental is a second line wing support player. He doesn't have the scoring ability to be a scoring winger, and I dont think he as the vision of a set up man like Oates or Giroux. So I would make him part of a deal for someone I believe who's potential is a top line scorer with all-star potantial.

Now I never said I was going to trade picks to get him. My offer would be Voracek and Meszaros for Ryan and a 3rd, or Voracek and Coburn for Ryan and a second. Flyers can throw in a conditional pick if Voracek doesnt sign, but that should get it done IMO.

- RooNosHockey

Absolutely Voracek has the scoring ability to be a scoring Winger. Take a look around the League. Tell me how many teams had 4 Wingers who each scored more then 18 goals?

Treat Luke good. You guys are gonna love his hitting.
- AnnGee44

Annie, I was surprised he was still only 22, it seems the Leafs treated him oddly this year considering his stage of development. I promise to be nice to him (I don't boo anyone but the really bad guy visitors and maybe a ref or two). And hitting will make him popular here, unless there is need for a new whipping boy. With Carle likely to remain, I believe he's safe.

To clarify, does this mean that the Flyers won't have to count his $3 million against the summer cap?

K cuz I don't.

Edit: FWIW he was good not great. The Flyers kept everything to the perimeter for him through 90% of the montreal series. Their Shot totals weren't exactly staggering and they are hardly offensively gifted that year. So he did what was asked off him but when Montreal turned up the heat he was mediocre against a mediocre offense.

I've yet to see Bryzgalov be mediocre against a mediocre offense in the playoffs. Even the Devils of this year were leaps and bounds ahead of that team.

Its going to be hard to be "the man" on a team that already has expectations to win. Are you saying he is ok going to a team not expecting to win just so he can be "the man"? Not being like you know who... just curious.
- RooNosHockey

I think he just wants to be on a good team with winning expectations, where he is the go to guy, and the team isnt filled with superstars. I still think he goes to the Wild.

i don't remember saying that it was automatic. anaheim can sign him if they'd like.

Brad Richards ended up with the Rangers, thankfully not the Flyers. I'm sure the flyers have better odds of signing Free Agents then other teams. Players like to play here.

- flyersfan51

I'm not so sure about that. Who would want to come here and sign a long term deal? Track record is that you will be traded..

1) All of it counts over the summer
2) Capgeek said on twitter that they have different info than Dreger and the impossible-to-reach bonuses only applied in the first year of the contract. So I don't know which one is correct -- Dreger or Capgeek.

What do you use to pick up the Flyers' pulse? A Sphygmomanometer, stethoscope, or just two fingers?
