I agree with you.. its not like we need 3 or 4 defenceman.. we only need two maybe just 1 but that player needs to be an elite D man! We already have Smid and Petry which would make a great 2nd pairing.. and Nick Shultz Sutton Potter and good for 3rd line pairing.. we just need someone to play with ryan whitney or two top D man.. and then we can trade whitney!
- lovin

Yeah I agree. I like Whitney, but injuries have been a setback for him. Either way I think it could be time for him to go. Mike Green is going through some rough times but I still think he could be a top guy. Don't know if Washington is open to trading him but I'm sure with the right approach they would at least consider it. Maybe something like Whitney, Hartikainen and a 3rd rounder for him ought to get them thinking. If we do get Justin Schultz that would be a huge plus and it would be free

despres is going to be a good one. if shero moves him and its not as a piece in a deal to get someon like bobby ryan then he is making a mistake. he is one of the only d prospects the pens have that will actually hit someone during the course of their career.

I am 50/50 with PRV for Despres. Same draft class, PRV taken 10th and Despres taken 30th. PRV has played at least one season and Despres is just about to start. PIT drafting Pouliot and getting Dumoulin probably does make Despres expendable as a prospect chip to trade. PIT also have Morrow waiting for his chance too.

If we had an opportunity to get a guy of yandles elite quality, trading sam gagner is an absolute no brainer.

I promise, its not tambellini whos balking at that deal if its been proposed. Its maloney

I like Gags but if Yandle is known to be available a lot of other teams could better that deal.

Yeah I am thumbs up for trading Whitney. I like that deal from EDM to WSH, but I think it will cost more...I think WSH would trade him as Carlson and maybe Orlov can step up. I say Whitney, Hemsky, & either a LW or D prospect. Green is RFA needs to be resigned to long term. Whitney is UFA next year, so he's not much value to WSH, Hemsky is gone in two, so the prospect given to WSH needs to be a decent one.

yeah. just because despres was taken after prv it doesnt mean he isnt a better prospect at this point in time though. and yeah the pens currently have a bunch of really promising d prospects, but they are all virtually the same kind of player. despres is the only one with any sort of size or physical aspect to him, not to mention the fact that he is ready for the second pairing now

This.

Ive read they want an impact centerman. Basically takes us out of the running right there cause we sure as hell aint trading the nuge.

Maybe if we offer; Gags, hemmer, 2013 1st

Too much? Not enough?

If Green can step up and be that elite puck moving d-man we know he is, that first pass will make it a whole lot easier for the big 4 to score. He's the type of guy we've been needing for a long time. I also think they should make an attempt for Jonathan Bernier

Ack, I hold back on the 1st round pick...It would have to be Gagner+, not sure Hemsky would work, Gagner and PRV didn't even work.

Yeah I really like the idea of Green now, last time he played a whole season was 07-08, Hemsky and Whitney also haven't played full seasons for sometime and all three can rekindle some old form with new scenery and EDM gives another prospect for the trade.
LAK won't trade Bernier unless it blows them out of the water like EDM was waiting for a offer for the 1st pick. LAK has Bernier signed cheap and don't have to move him. CGY fan also suggested JayBo for Hemsky and Belanger, which I like too, but I like the Green suggestion more.

Its alot yes. Maybe too much, but im not interested in the draft. We shouldnt be looking to that as part of our rebuild anymore. Those pieces are in place and we need to add through trades, signings now.
If we are in the lottery next year, ill lose it.

We offered gags and prv? Where did u read this?
I heard gags +, but not what the plus was

i am actually fairly unfamiliar with paajarvi, so i dont know if you are serious or joking. as objectively as possible, simone despres is one of the better young d prospects on the cusp of being ready in the league.

Dumoulin, Harrington, Depres, Morrow, Maata, Pouliot

If that ends up being the d-core that plays behind Crosby, were all (frank)ed.

Agreed. I think he played LW when Cole was with Edmonton, and Hemsky did alright that year.
- laughs2907

No, Cole who has been RW everywhere evar was on left wing and thats why he struggled so hard.

If Schultz does sign with the Oilers, Whitney wouldn't exactly have to be shipped for a defensive upgrade like Green. L.A. could maybe have some interest in him after losing Johnson to Columbus. The Kings already have Voynov and are probably going to give him a shot at a bigger role but I doubt Whitney would be out of the question if they would have interest in him at all. I'd love to see Bernier in an Oilers uniform

Maybe with the Staal and Schenn reunions we should go after Jeff Schultz and that might entice Justin to sign with the Oilers.

and I am aware they are not related

Me too, but I don't see LAK giving up Bernier for Whitney at all. Not sure what the heck LAK needs. They probably won't resign Penner, so whatever EDM can give up to replace Penner.
