i don't think fixing the D in Edmonton is ONLY about upgrading the D corps. it's about teaching all these young players how to play away from the puck. i think that's something that's lost on players sometimes. some of these guys like RNH, Hall, Eberle, and now Yakupov, they get to the NHL, they're been so dominant all their lives that they've been able to control the game when they're on the ice and they've never had to how to play without the puck exhaustively. i think that's a huge issue and something the Oilers are hopefully keeping in mind in their coaching search.

Try watching RNH and Eberle play... they do pretty damn good away from the puck.

I am dreaming but still hoping that we can make that trade that we didn't on draft day.. this is what i would like to see happen (of course favours the Oilers), but i wouldn't mind a deal that gives us less either but along the same lines.

Edmonton Receives: PK Subban, Ryan Murray, and Ryan Johansen
Columbus Receives: Alex Galchenyuk, Nail Yakupov, Erik Cole, Sam Gagner, Louis Leblanc
Montreal Receives: Rick Nash, Derrick Brassard, Nick Shultz(or ryan whitney), Oscar Klefbom

Thats not a big worry for me... they are young and you can teach defense and checking... especially with players with such a high hockey IQ... Nuge and Ebs are already quite good without the puck.

One thing you cant teach is elite skill.

But yeah, they gotta get the coach situation figured.

oh i agree. i just think it takes time and that team defence is not just about the 6 defenceman on the roster.

I agree with you, how about Colten Teubert, Nick shultz or ryan whitney, and Horcoff.. thats a lot of cap hit that calgary would have to take back tho
- lovin

No...CGY doesn't want more than the $5.5M cap hit of Horcoff, I don't even think CGY will want Horcoff back if they want to clear salary, but if no one else would take JayBo and his contract, dealing with EDM maybe the best choice as they can save something. It will be pick or prospect.

Yeah, MTL looses a potential 1C player in Galchenyuk and Brassard is not that, maybe 2C.

You could probably get Sekera for Hemsky. Both teams may have to throw in a pick (depending on who you think is more valuable) but it does help both team needs.

So habs give 3rd overall 2012 (like him more than nail btw), a 30 goal scorer in cole, Louis Leblanc (another of our 1stround picks) and a top dman for klefbom and overrated Nash? You're worse than cloutier if that's even possible. I'll be submitting this one to puckdaddy's blog for his terrible trade offer of the week to mock.

Scouts were saying that Klefbom is better than Murray. That trade make no sense for the Oilers.
- TaterNuts

Klefbom is still a while away from reaching his potential.. he has another year in sweden and then will probably take a season or two to adjust his game to the North American game.. Ryan Murray can step in right now! thats something the Oilers need as the young core of forwards are already at the point where they can produce points and do their part! and i don't think Klefbom is going to be better than Murray.. even if he is it would take him a while to get there.. and there are more chances of him not reaching his potential than murray!

I think Dan Boyle is another guy who could help if he could be had for a reasonable price.
Big cap hit but only 2 years. maybe they would take Khabi to back up Niemi... But seriously I would love a top 2 vet who can actually skate the puck out or make a great 1st pass.

I actually don't know where would Hemsky fit into BUF top 6...BUF already has Pominville and Stafford for RWs.

Of course Dan Boyle would help. He'd help every team in the league. He's one of the best skating and passing defenseman in the league even at his age.

Next year's draft is really deep. Not sure the Oilers should trade their first round pick, unless it is for a star player.

Alright fellow Oiler fans. Hypothetically speaking, Tambellini gets offers for the Oilers to get one of Ekman-Larsson or Doughty. The respective GM's want at least one of our big 3, we won't include Nail as he hasn't played yet.

Who do you prefer they were to trade to get one of those defensemen or one of that calibre and upside? Hall, Nuge, or Ebs. Come on arm chair GM's, do you do it or say no? Trade the number one point producing centre, the reckless heart and soul goal scorer, or captain clutch?

Leblanc is a 4th liner. Cole is aging and injury-prone. Nail is better than Gally. Subban is the only big piece you are losing. Klefbom is a stud. And you get a star like Nash. That is a good deal.

The Leafs thought they would finish higher than 2nd last in the league when they traded the picks for Kessel. Looking at Edmonton, they are going to be a lottery team next year as well, so why give up the pick? Could you imagine trading away Seth Jones or Nate Mackinnon? Both those guys would have went first overall in this year's draft.

Trade Hall for OEL. LA wouldn't do Hall for Doughty.

He doesn't. But the plan is supposedly to go with 3 scoring lines. But we don't really need another underachieving winger. We already have Leino.

Leopold could be had for less than sekera. But rumor is we too are looking for a top 4 right handed dmen

we have 8 nhl ready dmen though

sekera comes cheap for the next 3 years...if we traded with you itd be for top picks/prospects and probably not a roster player because sekeras value is higher

id be willing to deal either even though they are both very solid guys

At the draft TSN was reporting that Pheonix might be interested in moving Yandle and that they were interested in Gagner. I'd revist that idea and add a prospect and a pick to the deal.

Trading Gagner would leave a hole at centre, but Horcoff can play there for a year or two until somebody else develops or we acquire another second line centre. Horcoff does have four 50+ point seasons which is all we were getting our of Gagner anyways just without the defensive play and face off, I don't think it would hurt us too badly.
