He's ours unless someone gives him an offer sheet. I think he's ours until next year when we'd have to re-qualify him.
The other thing is his qualifying offer must be 105% of his contract. He made 875 last year so this year he'd get 918.5K. It would be in his best interest to take the cash. If teams thought he was worth that type of coin they would've traded for him at the draft. He might luck out and go on waivers though, and at this point that is best case scenario for Omark. To be honest the Oilers really threw him a bone here.
Guys making under 660k have to get 110% qualifying offer and guys make over mil 100%. - Lahey
So from you are saying it's best for Omark to smarten up and take the offer, go to training camp, try to earn a spot. Now if he doesn't earn a spot on the roster and gets cut, if he gets sent down to AHL, does he have to clear waivers or is there any point where he can be sent down without clearing waivers? |

I don't think he becomes a UFA until he is 27 or we don't give him a qualifying offer. - Lahey
This seems crazy. So for the next two years, If we choose to qualify him and he doesnt wanna sign.
He either;
A) plays where he doesnt want
B) doesnt play anywhere |

Ahhh. The waivers. He can sign, but if we cut him and send him down, he can be claimed |

You might be right, I've been trying to look it up but all it says is "If the player does not sign before December 1st, he is ineligible to play in the NHL for the remainder of the season", which might just mean that he is still an RFA - ALEDDO
Depends on age as if he was 27 he'd become a UFA. |

He has to clear waivers. Only way he can go down is if he is sent on a conditioning stint, which I believe he has to agree to or if the NHL changes things in the new CBA. |

So the difference in PRV and Omark is PRV is still in entry level contract so he doesn't have to clear waivers vs Omark is RFA offer? |

Yes, I believe all entry level contracts are two way contracts |

Waivers are (frank)ed. It's based on age, games and when you came into the NHL.
In the old system A.K.A. Ea sports version there was one-way deals and two-way deals. One ways meant you got one salary in the NHL and it was the same in the AHL, you also had to clear waivers to go to the AHL. Two way meant you had a NHL salary a AHL salary and you could go up and down waivers no problem. |

With that being said you play 160 games and you have to clear waivers to go down, such was the convo about Gagner in year 3. Some brilliant reporter suggested the Oilers send Gagner to the AHL to work on his game, didn't realize you can't do that without waivers. |

Well then Omark would be dumb for not taking the offer. He can take it, try for roster spot and EDM has to send him down thru waivers and he gets claimed and he's long gone from EDM. Easiest way for him to move on, unless he is greedy and feels he deserves more than the offer. He literally has to suck it up for one year of being paid under $1M. Or worst...no ONE takes him thru waivers...LOL. |

Ya I dunno, these things are so complicated even for Oilers management apparently
ie. See Oilers trying to call up PRV last season when they weren't allowed to |

It was like they panicked when Samuelsson was off the board and thought they had to fulfill their annual random Oil King quota. |

I don't know why they would panic though... They had a day to cup up with who they would take. |

My perspective is that they neither wanted to risk him not being there at 63 (I don't know that he would have) nor did they want to sacrifice a later pick to be able to get into the late 2nd round. Not the best way to play it, but there you have it. |

I just realized that I said "cup up with" instead of "come up with"... Could this be a sign? I think so... I think sooooo...
Naw, maybe not!
