Which qualities does the current team lack?

character
mental toughness
physical toughness
skill
hates to lose attitude
smart play
playmaker instincts

I was tempted to say I don't care who plays if we get more of these qualities back. With that said I am out of the Roy business and Vanek as well. And I own both jerseys. My next jersey is Tim Horton.

You wonder why both these teams suck?

Who is dumber, the Isles for making the offer of the Blue Jackets for turning it down

i wonder if they hold on to Roy then until the determine if he will be ready next season..
- SabresFaninIndiana

I, honestly, think they are holding their trade pieces until the whole Nash, Parise's rights thing is pushed over...

everyone has an offer on the table for both... and they don't want to trade away one of those rights unless they know they are OUT of the running for one...

If we were to somehow land Parise.. i think then we would see Roy, Sekera, and vanek get traded for picks/prospects because there is no way we can keep all of them and give Parise atleast 80M.

If you get Parise (which i highly doubt will happen) i am not sure you want Vanek anymore, especailly with Armia coming the following season.. but i think the trade value for vanek would be pretty low because of people knowing that.

I think buffalo could possibly trade hodgson. I dont think they were impressed with is play, specifically his skating. If the sabres cant improve his skating, like they tries with kassian, he will be gone.

Mogilny's a beaut! Good job on landing Grigs, Leafs were dumb to pass on him.

I agree... I think Hodge could be packed in a trade with Roy/Vanek to make it more appealing for another team to take in...

I like Hodge... so I do NOT want this to happen.. I think that Hodge having a full offseason, camp, and preseason to play with his linemates will help him astronomically... especially if it is Vanek and Pommer.

Ennis kind of solidified himself by his immediate impact when moved to C last year that he is a very very capable and plausible 2C in the NHL.

Even if they do trade him it wont be till this time next season or beyond, if they can sign him reasonably..

I must say i did not understand that... All leaf nation talks about is how they need a Center for the future.. with Galy off the board.. they must not have liked Grigs AT ALL.

I think JVR will be a good asset to Toronto but DO NOT move him to center..

His skating wasn't all that bad, and that's what Roberts was focusing on during the offseason while working with Hodgson. He'll be fine. I don't think they're looking to move him.

Apparently that's the plan from what I was reading. Just doesn't make sense to me. Though, I didn't think Ennis at center would work. JVR did play center for pretty much his whole pre-NHL career.

Yeah, I'll be looking to evaluate Cody by the New Year. Is he working with his linemates, does he seem comfortable, how is his overall game.
If he still looks semi-lost by then, it might be cause for concern.

yea... I agree that ennis could be a precursor...

JVR, Grabo, and Bozak will be their top 3?

Roy, Ennis, Hodge will be ours..

Ya I guess Burkie, either wasn't listening to Leaf nation, or Burkes pride wouldn't let him take a Russian with a first rounder... either way, I have no problem with Reilly, but it does not address Orginizational needs at all.

I think the talk about that is more of a scape goat if they can't get their hands on a real center.

I think it's more likely Ennis is moved than Hodgson, as much as I like Ennis, if he doesn't have a great start to the year, or if we find a legit #1 for NOW, I think he becomes the odd one out. The reasons for bringing in Hodgson wasn't just to get a center, but the leadership qualities that he has. All that remains to be seen, but I doubt they give up on Hodgson that easily without an amazing return. And still, I think the return on Ennis would be better.

I think Toronto got softer in that deal by far... Schenn was one of the best open ice hitters in the game today...

I wonder what the deal is with the NHL uniting every Brother duo.

I would be all for Buffalo getting Nick Foligno!!

Even Drew Miller is a plausible bottom 6 guy.

Especially since he's known for his offensive upside, not his defensive play. They said he could be very 1 dimensional.

The problem is that teams don't generally trade top line centers. We should know here in Buffalo. It just doesn't happen that much. Especially not since the lockout. Those are guys you have to draft and develop for the most part. I'm not saying it will never happen, but the odds are very low.

I'm really curious of why Washington acquired Ribeiro...

Now they have:

Backstrom 1C
Ribeiro 2C?
Laich 3C?
Johannson 4C? (he was their 1C when backstrom was hurt last year)

I've heard all sorts of write ups about him, from being 1 dimensional to being the next Bobby Orr ( )

All I can hope for is that Eakins can teach him an all around game like he has with the other Marlies.

And yes, Leafs got weaker, JVR is not a hitter, he's just hard to move off the puck, Schenn has led the league in Hitting for atleast 2 years.. maybe 3

A guy I work with is from the Detroit area originally, so he's a huge Wings fan. I mentioned that I'd love to get Drew here for with Ryan, and he said no way in hell. They really like him out there. He instead suggested that we send Ryan to them so that the 2 can be together. I told him I don't want Howard.
