Fair point
However, I think a HEALTHY vinny is stil a ppg player
So, while he may be in decline... He was so much better than getzlaf or stastny to begin with... IMO, he's better than both right now
And he's LED his team to a cup (unlike getzlaf who was not THE guy, even though his line did play a big role)
Btw,
Can't I make an argument that both stastny & getzlaf are "in decline" also?
Look at their stats... ESP goals - jdfitz77
Richards was a big reason TB won that cup....
Getzlaf maybe...
Statsny is an overpaid Roy in terms of production...
I'd take Getzlaf if had to choose between him,Vinny, Roy or Paul |

you did, twice now. Good skater, good hands..you're describing a skill guy more or less.
You don't create turnover with good hands, you create turnover with good puck pressure more so.
Paul Gaustad was not a good skater and did not have good hands yet he played against other teams top line....we're not asking McCormick to do that, just go out and play 8 mins a game, hit people, get into a scrap now and then. That's all we need out of a 4th line center, and that's what he does. - Homer
Obviously your expectations of a center, be it from the 1st line down to the 4th line are much different than mine.
McCormick is a solid 4th line winger, he is not a center, on any line. |

Yeah, I do understand the arguments against
And can't say I really disagree with any of those points
But he is a much better "leader" IMO,
Which is something we are clearly lacking...
And I do think he can be a really good player again if he can stay healthy
Another thing to consider...
Vinny's stats dropping are probably partly due do playing with average players on his line since they moved StLouis onto the Stamkos line - jdfitz77
I don't mind Vinny... a change of scenary could do him a world of wonders.. but his 7.8M for the next 10 years is the end of him. He is already 32 and signed until he is 40+ if I remember right.

if we are gonna go for a guy whose sole purpose of putting on skates is to get into a fight... then I want Parros... he doesn't do anything else besides beat people up. |

I'm nt looking for skill out of my 4th line. I want guys who play with their hair on fire and can change the momentum of the game by being physical. - Homer

So were vinny, Marty StL & prospal...
Part of the reason Richards was so productive is that other teams were geared more towards stopping the vinny/stlouis line
Getzlaf had something like 11goals this past year btw
And he supposedly is out of shape & had an attitude problem |

That contract is brutal I agree
But that's also the reason he MIGHT be available...
He's still a really good player IMO
Not sure if it's front loaded so that a buyout can make sense at some point, but I'd think it's prob structured like that
Also, he has missed time in the range of 15-20 games the last 2 years...
Its probable he retires before that deal is even close to being up
IMO, his injuries are the most reason for worry
But I agree, that cap hit is nuts...
Doubt it if anyone would take that off tampa's hands |
