Trying to figure out what this supposed @MapleLeafs deal is about. Not believed to be as big as JVR deal.

Maybe drastically underrating his potential, but certainly not the present.

Last year, he was not good enough to be in the NHL.

- GoneFullRetard

No last year he sucked, but prior to that he was easily a 2nd pairing guy, and at times, top pairing.

There's a really good chance we wind up regretting this deal, given JVR's injuries

Just do Kadri & a franson/gunnar for Luongo and get it over with. This is getting stupid.

Yeah, Burkie needs to pull the trigger right now.

Season starts tomorrow, right?

That is entirely possible. It is very difficult to give up on a 22 yr old defensive D.

the JVR injury and underperforming scares me.

Nonetheless, I think it is an OK trade from both sides.

Pretty sure JVR is more of a goalscorer than playmaker, could be wrong though.

As for Schenn, you are drastically underrating him.

- Feeling Glucky?

He was 7th in the league for hits. That alone makes him a good fit for philly. Leafs do feel the loss of schenn. hopefully not as much as the impact of JVR

Komi or Connolly for Luongo... Both if the Leafs are lucky.

Schenn is never going to be a top-pairing guy. In all likelyhood he ends up a 4-6 D man, who can at times be shut down type defender, but also lacks foot speed, hockey smarts in his zone, and virtually no offensive game. His puck moving abilities I believe have a chance to be a better, if he's in the right situation. JVR has higher potential then Schenn and has more value right now, imo. As for the injuries, he must clear a physical with the team, and if he does we should expect him to be healthy come the regular seasons. Injuries happen, you can't predict them, overall it was a good deal for both teams that addressed the needs of both hockey clubs. It's rare to see a pure hockey deal in hockey nowadays, especially with young players...it was nice to see.

Every time he tripped over the blue line, or red line, and his skate lace whipped out and caught someone's sock...

he got credited with a hit, or 2, maybe more.

For someone with that many hits, can you seriously remember more than like 3 of them.

Now compare that to the horrendous passes, slow ass reaction, dumb decisions and inability to control someone in front of the net... I remember a LOT of those.

A swap of highly drafted underachievers that could see both benefit from a change. No winners or losers right now. Good deal for both sides really. Philly needed D, Toronto needed a forward.

lol WHY? His contract his huge, and there is virtually no market. Burke would be dumb to give that much for Luongo.

I don't know how nice it was to see.

Neither team makes this "hockey trade" if the players are performing anywhere near the expectations of a first round draft pick.

More like a bad-hockey trade.

Currently, Schenn is a number 6-7 dman at best on any team in the league.

If he reaches his ceiling the best Schenn will end up being is as effective as Rob Scuderi, Matt Greene and Willie Mitchell were in the playoffs for LA.
A solid character guy who could play in the top four/five as a defensive force.
More likely, because his foot speed is so brutal, he will never rise to that level. Perhaps in the ole days of clutch and grab, his effectiveness could be that of an Adam Foote, but in a league dominated by speed, Schenn has thus far been rendered incompetent.
Role guys, especially defensive defenseman in the 5,6,7 slot are easier to attain than a top flight winger via UFA.

Uhh ok? It's still two young players being traded for each other, under achieiving or not...it's not everyday that happens. Neither are doomed at ages 23 and 22 respectively.

I think my assessment as a "bad-hockey" trade pretty much sums it up.

... kind of a "might-as-well" deal. There is the potential to ease some of both team's problems.

It probably won't make either team worse off.

yeah, it was a "might as well" deal.

It does give us a little more to hope works out next season, so that's good

And could make both better, or only one. Its just funny to see Schenn is already a 6-7 dman and JVR is a center. Took less time than I thought.

No way will I regret the enormous upgrade in skill, speed and potential. It is well worth the risk.
