Lets be honest here:
1) Long island is a phenomenal place to live and raise a family ASSUMING you don't want a big city life
2) Wang/Snow/Lighthouse project make the NYI a cluster(frank) which detracts UFAs.

This is not really true. Most of Nassau county is 30-40 minutes from Manhattan, some areas even less

So you're saying Smyth preferred being in NYI over Colorado? The place he couldn't wait to get out of to go to LA, the place he couldn't wait to get out of to go to (frank)ing EDMONTON?????

You will have to show me where I insinuated that?? I said he wanted to win a cup.

Big City life??! I guess Manhattan being 30 -45 minutes away would not be good enough in that case?

HUGE difference between living IN Manhattan versus being able to drive 30-45 minutes TO Manhattan

Is there some law saying you can't live in Manhattan and play for the Islanders? Plenty of players who play for NYC teams live in the outlying suburbs, which is essentially the same thing.

So if you want to live in a major metropolitan area you should sign with NYI instead of the other teams?

You can always drive to a big city. Hell, with their money they can buy a heard of llamas to carry them. The only point I made is that if the players want the big city living, NYI isnt the top destination. Do you really disagree?

Not sure that's what I said...more like it certainly shouldn't be a deterrent to signing there. Long Island was essentially developed as living space with a little more legroom for NYC workers. It's directly connected to the City, and by design, it's very easy to move back and forth between the two areas, with thousands upon thousands of people doing it every day.

My point was plenty of players for NYC-based sports teams live in giant homes in, say, Connecticut, rather than in Manhattan. That's further away (though still very close, which is the entire idea behind the tri-state area being interconnected the way it is) than someone choosing to live in Manhattan and playing for the Isles. It's a perfectly doable option, and not an inconvenient one.

EDIT -- basically, it would be like saying Jets and Giants players can't enjoy the City life because the stadium is in East Rutherford, NJ and not Manhattan...

You missed the point entirely. IF a player wants to live IN a major city and play for their team, NYI isn't at the top of the list because, really, who wants to commute 30-45 minutes instead of 15?

Man thi is so very pointless...

I didn't miss your point. You're just not seeing mine, and maybe it's my fault for not stating it clearly enough. But, I agree this is pointless, so, see you in another thread.

I still think Witt can play. It was only in that system he couldn't. Heck Guerin did not fit into that system.. and he won the cup on Pitt.
