That was kind of a fun, unexpected year. Nolan, the vets, Dubie , it was fun while it lasted.

Maybe, maybe not. At the time of the trade the Islanders were 6th in the East. They finished 8th.

Sorry, next time I'll throw in 15 exclamation points to really emphasize my point.
And again, since it flew abundantly over your head....I never said Smyth played bad. He averaged a point a game during his regular season games with us. He had a decent playoffs, nothing spectacular. Then again, a Habs fan would know this better than me, an Islanders fan, right?

I don't know why my point was irrelevant? You could have chose to not respond to my post!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another keyboard dude who escalates things quickly and unnecessarily. *sigh*

Injuries had a lot to do with that too.
Then the whole DP replacing Dubie dynamic....did it have anything to do with it, probably not. Even though we won game one, we were the 8 seed, and we probably weren't winning anyway.

We were in a pretty good position with Delusions of Grandeur bouncing around in our heads there in February and March.
If it weren't for a Montreal-Toronto game the night before (a Saturday) and Montreal losing a crazy 6-5 game and then Don Cherry blasted Lamiriello for playing Clemmenson the next day, we probably don't get in. The Habs fan should remember that, if I can.

All that, and lest I forget. a Dubie pokecheck got us in that year

That year seems like such a distant memory. The only player left is Ricky, no? Then factor in 14 uniform changes...

I'm going to try to keep this realistic. Options by position, without mentioning the names Parise, Suter or Semin.

Center: You're looking at Paul Gausted (who I'd rather avoid) or Jarret Stoll. He'd be a perfect number 2 center. Can Snow entice him? Probably not. He'd do wonders for this team. Maybe Brandon Prust, but for the money he'll be looking for, he'll be too expensive for the fourth line. At least, for us.

LW: someone (MB?) said Dustin Penner earlier, a possibility. What kind of money is he looking for after a pretty decent playoffs, though? Andrei Kostitisyn intrigues me, but, where does he fit on this team. Another "play some nights, mail it some other nights" type of guy. Worries me.

RW: Shane Doan, I would love, does he leave Arizona? Doubtful. Ales Kotalik? Another inconsistent guy. I would like to see what he can do here, but, it probably wouldn't be good. Lee Stempniak....not that I'm saying I want this, but this is definitely an option instead of PaP. Not the kind of point producer Parenteau is, but, can definitely put the puck in the net. Aaron Asham? You never know. Fan favorite around here. Good fighter, decent slapshot.

D: Barrett Jackman....probably too much money, but I love his game. He'd be great in our division. Carlo Colaiacovo? Another Blues d-man. Again, probably too much money, but another guy I'd love to see here. Matt Gilroy could probably be had on the cheap, but is he an upgrade? Not in my opinion. Bryce Salvador is a guy who would fit in here, but like Stoll, had a great playoffs and probably priced himself out of our range. Tim Gleason? maybe. Might be better off bringing up a deHaan or a Donovon type.

In a nuthell, poopty year for trying to buy players. Unless we make a power play for Parise, which I'm certainly not getting my hopes up for, I'm not expecting much. Figured I'd give you guys something to talk about. A little bored, a little insomnia.

If I remember right, they sank in the standings after DP got hurt coming out to play the puck in Montreal, which was sometime in the middle of March. Goaltending and defense fell apart over the following stretch until they finally threw Dubie in net instead of Dunham, and they won the four games at the end to get them back to 8th.

Mark Parrish
Dwayne Roloson
James Wisniewski

- brodydog29

Mark Parrish left for the same reason that Brendan Witt left....he could no longer skate at an NHL level (not that he ever could, but the rules used to make it easier for guys like him to play)- just because he didn't want to accept the fact doesn't mean he hated Long Island...he did sign at least one contract to stay here, if I remember correctly. Roloson, from all accounts, is an a**hole, no matter where he is. Wisniewski was traded because he was up for a contract, and he was largely useless, not because he was unhappy- as one can see, he made Columbus SO MUCH better last year (why one would be happy to leave Long Island, and then sign with Columbus, I have no idea, but I digress.....makes me think someone plays just for the money...). About the only legitimate argument was Kirk Muller- although I still think that was more not wanting to play for a mediocre team than not wanting to live on Long Island.
