You might be right, we'll see. But in my opinion I felt that JVR had the higher upside. If you remember back when the rumors about this deal first came up. I said that I like Schenn and a player, and I do. I think he'll be a good fit here. But I felt that JVR is the one Winger we had that could be that dynamic first line goal scorer. We lost that element. We'll see if Holmgren addresses that. But I think you'll have to overpay for Ryan. There's no doubt that Ryan would look real nice next to 28. But the cost will be high. I'd rather look in Free Agency if possible.

I think Homer will explore every option but I don't think giving up voracek and a defenseman is an overpayment. That's just my opinion.

For now. Timonen's deal is over after this Season. There is a big picture to look at. Plus, Holmgren isn't done yet.

No I know, this isn't the team we will have by October, we all know that, I would just like to see Giroux's talents maximized with a natural scoring winger, Ryan doesn't have Nash's cap hit, (as well, Howson still wants way too much for Nash).

Yes, Hartnell may get 30 again, but he's not a natural scorer, although he did an awesome job playing like one, he would look even better using his corner work opposite a Ryan with G as well, rounding out a top line.

I agree, if that defenseman's name is Matt Walker.

You can't go into training camp to work you way into shape anymore. You need to stay in complaining shape all year long nowadays.

I don't disagree with any of that. But I wouldn't trade a very young promising Winger and a top 4 defenseman in his prime for Ryan.

I just did some number crunching. And my calculations put the Flyers Off Season Cap number currently at $64,324,224.

So you wouldn't trade a promising young winger for a young promising winger?

Can we still squeeze Weber and Parise in?

Here's my take on the Ryan interest from the Flyers:

He's a consistent 30+ goal scorer who would be great on Giroux's wing for many wings to come. The deal would probably look something like Meszaros, Voracek and a 1st. And while it may seem counter-intuitive to trade a defenseman when we just traded for one, the Flyers can easily fill that gap by re-signing Carle.

Even with all those transactions you're probably looking at 6mil left in cap space (without Pronger going to the LTIR during the season). So this gives room to pick up another dman or a veteran forward.

Note: Coburn has a modified NTC so I would doubt he's going anywhere.

- Sink.

You would be nuts to deal Coburn for Ryan in the first place.

I'd deal Meszaros, Read, and a mid-round pick and no more. I'm against trading Voracek.

Agreed.

Change it to Read, and then maybe I'd talk. Voracek could be a special player.

It's the perfect storm. Kimmo retires next year, and Weber hits UFA status. Just be patient and wait it out another year. Even if Kimmo comes back for a year, it's going to be at a much friendlier hit than 6M+. And if Kimmo wants to win a cup and understands that him taking a low cap hit can bring us Weber, I think he goes for it.

Not sure why people are so high on Vorcacek. He is a decent player, but I'd gladly trade him + a pick for Ryan. If anything, Read has similar potential to Vorcacek and his cap hit is much friendlier. There's no way you trade your low-cap hit players if you don't have to. Vorcacek, 1st, and 3rd for Ryan...

Sure, but they would just have to do it very quietly.

Well with the 10% off season exemption, That would leave the Flyers with $12,675,806

I'm not really interested in giving up Read. His production versus his Cap hit makes him a valuable player.

I agree. Thats a trade to consider. Not sure what Anaheim would want in return but that offer is reasonable.

I think it would be nice to set up clode w/ a natural sniper like Ryan, but I'm not sure we have the assets since JVR was dealt for what I consider a discounted price. how much of this team are we willing to rip apart?
