Coburn is a hybrid, as is Mez - both can skate very well & have big bodies, grossmann is really the only one considered a "pylon" if you will somewhat, I've seen Schenn play & he can skate some as well, I don't think Carle plus for Ryan leaves us with Kimmo & 4 Hal Gills
- puckhead17

IF it's gonna take one of our top four dmen i don't see why we have to add, when they are in the position of needing to move the player. Offense isn't our need at this point.

Edit: also It be (frank)ed up if we sign Carle to less than market value cause he wants to stay here, and turn around to trade him. Very poopty move on the Flyers part and that I can't see how it wouldn't hurt them at the bargaining table down the road.

I been pretty vocal, about it, no and no. If we move D now, then what was the point of the moves we just did? If anything move Voracek/Bourdon or Voracek and 2 or 3 rounder. Other wise the heck with it. I don't want to get fleeced the way we did Columbus last year with Carter.

I can't see Hartnell getting 30 goals again, will be tough, and we really don't have a natural goal scorer up front

If he just gets his usual 24/25 goals we aren't losing much. Also I think Voracek is gonna take a step forward this year. He was close to busting 20 this year. He just needs to improve on his finishing and he can be better than Ryan.

yeah on your edit, but no offense Carle wouldn't be the first guy they "did dirty"

technically I really see Coburn for Ryan an even swap, as Coburn has taken his game to the next level, but I do not part with him under any circumstance.

Neither Coburn or Meszaros move the puck as well as Carle does. In my opinion, Carle or a similar type of player is a must for this defense core as it is currently constituted. Especially if Timonen is going to miss time.I think Meszaros deserves a chance to have some more offensive opportunities. But Grossmann, Schenn, and Coburn are all defensive defensman.

Okay so I been playing with this capgeek. What I need to know is how much exactly can the Flyers go over the cap? Because if they add Parise at 7 mill, resign carle for a mill more than what he's getting now and add a b-up like Biron for about a mill we go over by Pronger's cap hit. I know it says 10% you're allowed which would translate to 7 mill but just wanna make sure.

Playing with Giroux, I see no reason why Hartnell can't reach 30 goals again.

It is that but the cap figure is just a suggestion right now. So take it for what it is a suggestion

I'd still like to see Coburn get more PP time along the half-wall for 1-timers.

Agreed on your assessment of Carle. As for those who believe Carle is a good or at the very least capable defenseman:

I have it on good authority (fan sitting behind me during game 4 of the Pittsburgh series) that a fire hydrant could have scored 40 goals on the G/Jagr line. I believe Hartnell will get 30 again this season.

I really thought at one time that Coburn was going to develop a very solid offensive game. His first full year with the Flyers he put up 36 points. But it seems as though he has settled into that mobile, stay at home defenseman role.

well if a fire hydrant can net 40 with G, then Ryan could be Rocket Richard bound.

Coburn Mez & Schenn can all move the puck, you don't need to be a 40 point threat on D to be considered a solid puck mover.

I like Carle!
I want him back, no argument here, but I like Coburn a little more, and the Ducks will not bite there "bills" on Mez after back surgery

The thing about Bobby, to me, is his attitude. The first or second time he faces adversity here, what happens? Another article in the Courier Post, again making Randy Miller useful?

then they can keep Ryan and we'll keep shopping. Can't see how dismantling this d-corps now is productive.

Yes, but is that due to him or the way he's been used/coached since that 36 point season?

Just wondering because I'd love to see him, Meszy, Luke Schenn, and Timonen on our PP points.

Ya know what skip I wanted to leave that alone, but him crying about being mentioned in trades kinda strikes me as red-flag.
