Jake will get a nice raise
- puckhead17

Based on what? In his two non-rookie seasons in Columbus he averaged 15-33-48. Last year he had 18-31-49. And he's an RFA meaning he has very little leverage.

I'd say he gets a modest bump (maybe up to 2.75) but not much more.

Probably another 1 year deal and see how he does this season

I'm okay with the trade now. Didn't like it at first but L. Schenn is a big kid with a right handed shot that provides us with quite a bit of depth on the blue line. He could develop into a first pairing dman as well.

Now:
-find a back up goaltender who could play 15-20 games
-resign jake
-resign carle
-pitch for parise

-i have no clue what it would take now to get weber
-bobby ryan is a luxury we just can't afford trade wise unless picks and prospects are enough
-I'd let Jagr walk, at best we'll get 60 games out of him this year

2.75/1 year. Seems fair for both sides.

Now that the shock of losing JvR is over, I do like the connections Luck Schenn has as he joins the team. The obvious is his brother Brayden but Luke also played with Claude Giroux and Wayne Simminds in the World Junior's in 2007-08.

I'm disappointed in the trade because in my mind JvR was Giroux's ideal winger moving forward for the next 6 season. I think what really hurt JvR aside from injuries and aside from now playing tough enough was the fact he was taking off Giroux's wing in October and was unable to get back on due to the success that our top line was having this year.

Don't get me wrong, I know what Luke Schenn brings to the table and I like him but not straight up for JvR. Feel we could have gotta a mid level draft pick or a prospect of some sort but that's me.

I pointed out last night that I don't feel Luke Schenn is nasty enough. Great, the kid had the most hits in the NHL last year but to me hits don't automatically make you a nasty player. To me after watching Pronger play, when he could play, he's the best example. It's about ripping a player's face off if he toughs your goaltenders or takes a cheap shot on one of your teammates. It's about getting mad or all in all playing mad. If Luke can do this nightly, how could I dislike him? I think standing up for his brother can only help what I'm looking for in Luke, if they really are this close as reported. I'll say this though, when the Flyers have Saturday night off, I'm normally watching Hockey Night in Canada. I've seen a lot of unnecessary and unforced giveaways by Luke and I can see him becoming a scape goal quick.

It's a good thing this cap hit is very reasonable.

I've watched him a lot as well. His first season he was pretty good, but he ef has regressed. Doesn't take the simple route to clear it and gets burned. I am hoping that he plays better as part of a more experienced d corps that can mentor him.

The flyers have really set themselves up for any FA or contract negotiations having NMC's. 3 guys who signed extensions get traded.
If I was Jake I tell my agent get a NMC or tell PH to forget it and trade my rights.

My thoughts EXACTLY.

Weber is so tied to Suter; very hard to call until something gives.

He plays first power play unit. He plays solid 2 way game (more than just his 49 points) and didn't he have almost a ppg in the playoffs?

Have you checked around the league at some comparible players & what they are payed?

JVR received his 6 yr $25 mill mainly for his playoff 2 years ago and "potential"

I don't think he's eligible for a NMC yet.

Nothing against Garrison but I don't want any part of a one-year wonder in their contract season Dman. Jeff Finger anyone?

I'm not the biggest fan of Carle but at least I know what I'm getting with him.

- snake17

Garrison is better than Finger. His offense may be a "one-year wonder" (we'll see) but he's been pretty good in his own end of the ice for a couple years now.

I don't think Voracek is going to get a huge raise. I think he'll get a one-year contract (he'll still be RFA next year, too) on a moderate raise and then Svoboda will look for a big long-term contract if Voracek has a good year in 2012-13.

Doan reportedly wants a four-year contract. I wouldn't do that.

The main factor of the JVR deal was 6 years. If he progressed on the line that he established in the playoffs 2 years ago he would have been way underpaid in the middle of his contract. That contract doesn't look as good today, but that's Toronto's problem now.

Voracek has no leverage. If he wants the 4.25 that JVR got and the Flyers say no, what are his options? Hold out? Demand a trade? I'm not sure what advantage he gains by not playing. I'm a big fan of Voracek but it's not like he made night and day strides from the player he was when he was acquired. He's a good solid 2nd line RFA winger that gives you some PP time and 20 goals.

And Giroux makes 3.75 so let's not talk comparables.

Watching sportsnet up here in Kanida...

John Shannon said with the Schenn trade, he is hearing that because visnovsky went to NYI, ANaheim needs a Dman and he expects the Flyers to send a dman plus to Anaheim for Ryan in the next few days. He mentioned Coburn.

I don't put much stock in this personally. We just got a dman for a forward and why the hell would we trade one of the dman to add to the forward corps.
