I am sure Tambo is taking notes. But is Tambo in that kind of situation? NO so I don't get your point?

Um everybody thought that:

1. Staal would sign an extension now
2. Staal would be traded.

Staal was never touching the ice this season without an extension, and when he put the brakes on a long term deal, EVERYONE knew he was getting traded.

Not what we wanted, but we knew it was needed for the good of the franchise.

Maybe Tambo should take notes.

It will come to the point where EDM ends up like PIT trading away Staal, I think we all know that. Ideally my wish is EDM can keep them all and have them paid like CHI, PHI, or LAK. Surround them with good supporting cast. If they all get to 80+ point seasons, then yes, EDM will have to trade them. This is not the time to do so though, when that time comes, it's actually I would say a good problem to have for a GM. There are good and bad problems.

Just watched the Much Music Video Awards because my stupid teenager and b1tchwhore wife wanted to. They got all mad when I chanted "fagg0t" when Bieber came on and then started chanting for Katy Perry to show us her tits.
Bieber ended the riveting festivities performing in pants that looked like he had literally had a poop in them and were bright red. I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard.
In other news, I'm never allowed to watch awards shows with them ever again. Objective: complete.
Next time, I watch The Lorax with the little ones.

That sounds like it could have been an episode of The Cosby's

You point was to not have taken Yakupov and instead take a Dman! My point is that with the 1st overall pick you don't take a projected (possible) #2 dman over a projected (ovechkin like) 40 goal scorer! Pretty simple really! Not to mention the Dmen that are coming available and our own upcoming crop of young D!

We dont have the luxury to make those kind of moves at this point.
U dont pass on guys with yakupovs upside when you're a 29th place team.

It's a 'good' problem to have in terms of PR, but not success.

Does Nail really make them that much better compared to getting a nice defenseman?

The kids are nice, but not when they are wasting their ELCs playing for a bottom-dwelling team that isn't trying to get better.

Please.

If Hall / Nuge / Eberle / Nail evolve to become excellent players and fan favorites, do you see Tambo having the balls to move them?

- nhindian

You forget, Edmonton went through this once a long time ago.

Fans are savvy here. It wouldn't be fun but we'd understand the reasoning.

Thanks for all your concern though.

How many dmen did Pittsburgh take in their lottery days?

This is a STRONG possibility now because all of our young guys will be signed (hopefully) for Duchesne type contract extensions! He is a good comparable player after their ELC's expire

I love how you don't seem to understand that we couldnt get a nice D man with our pick and obviously a good enough one wasnt available to trade for

1 goalie and I don't think he was better than Staal, Vanek, Seabrook, Getzlaf and the list goes on from that draft year!!

Kinda wanted him to rattle it off but thanks buddy.

Guess we get two more bottom 5 finishes to match. Not like we have other dmen like say, oh, Oscar Klefbom that many scouts think will be just as good or better than Murray. By all means, lets take him 1st overall in favor of the consensus 1st overall that's been compared to Pavel Bure. Solid draft strategy.

Not to mention we could very well already have a stud D in our system Klefblom, Musil, Gernat to name a few!

To win hockey games, you have to put the puck in the net and Yakupov can do that. It doesn't matter if it's 1 goal, when a team has more offensive weapons, there is a higher chance the puck will end up in the net. You can play uptight like NYR, but you have to put the puck in the net to win games, I don't think a team can ever have enough offensive weapons. It now gives EDM a lot of options up front. Don't get me wrong, you also need to have good defence and goalie to win games, but if Yakupov wasn't there, then EDM would have picked Murray.

Also Edmonton lost 10 shootouts this season. What if they had a goal scorer to take that extra shot.

Edmonton's defense needs improvement and I don't know if it will but schultz. I think Toronto still plans on trading some of theirs for a goalie but regardless edmonton does need to do something.

I think it should start with a new goalie. Dubnyk needs more time. Defense aren't growing on trees but another goalie might be attainable.

I also think it is about time that Katz steps in and redoes the whole management. Let Lowe and ST retire and bring someone in someone decent. Lowe was a bad GM and Tambi just doesn't do anything.

It still amazes me that people see Jones as a 4th line guy. He's got 17 and 18 goals in the last two seasons.

Hemsky doesn't belong on the third line he'd have to be defensively responsible which he is not. Drafting Yakupov made Hemsky expendable.

- rathagor

Trade hemsky to VCR. For Ballard/Raymond

Raymond speed would actually fit on the coilers
