I still think this trade makes sense for the Leafs. I wanted this trade last year before Riemsdyk got hurt but figured the Leafs would have to add to the trade.

It makes sense for both teams.. the Flyers need defense bad and the leafs need a big top 6 forward (although he doesnt play big).. they both have a lot of potential but it wasnt working out in their respective teams, so maybe a change a scenary helps that.

I would have liked to see Schenn in Carlyles system, but u had to figure he was gone when Burke drafted Rielly and Finn

That's what Flyers fans are saying right now I bet.

I don't get the hate from Leafs fans on this one. Was Schenn really this loved?

Sorry, i dont like watching wussy hockey. This team gets softer and lazier today.

Flyer fans will love Schenn, for some reason tough, rugged Dmen are perfect fits on their team, but not ours.

When he reaches his potential he will log huge minutes with philly, i can see him being like Dan Girardi in a way, eats up huge minutes and will shut down top forwards, hits like a truck and blocks shots..

Its sad to see him go, but u had to see it coming

for (frank)s sake give it a rest

the leafs have a good pool of D prospects and some good dmen, you needed help up front and JVR will bring that (when healthy)

Rielly and Finn won't be on the Leafs next season.

Gards and Liles are the puck movers....Franson and Phaneuf are the two-way defensemen......Gunnar is solid in his own end with a little bit of offensive upside and *gulp* Komi is the tough stay-at-home guy, but he can be replaced by Holzer if we're able to rid ourselves of his contract.

yeah Rielly is at least a year away, maybe two, Finn is two or even three, but in the near future, something has got to give

I actually don't mind our top-six right now......as long as Carlyle can give them a good system to work with. If we have to move a piece in a package for a #1C, then sobeit, we'll have to plug in a suitable replacement.

If we want better team defence, then we need to add some better backchecking forwards. Kessel was brutal. Maybe we need to rejig the lines, putting JVR on the second line, with Lupul and Grabovski. We then put Bozak, Kessel and Kulimen on the other top line. Kulimen is a much more responsible winger and could take up the defensive slack. Didn't that line play together, before Lupul arrived?
- PrinceLH

I doubt that. He likely bumps Kulemin down a line, or makes it possible to package macarthur or kulemin for a centre. They won't break up Lupul and Kessel.

How about don't think anything until we see what he can do......the least we can do is give the guy a clean slate.

When you trade a guy that you were thinking would be a cornerstone of the franchise you kind of hope that it isn't for someone that you need to "wipe the slate clean" for. That said, Schenn hasn't lived up to that billing lately.

I get the trade, and think its fair, and the smart move in the sense that we have too many d, and need forwards. I'm just not a fan of JVR.

This.

Not knocking on JVR's talent or potential, just never really liked him.

Well, he's ours now, so we might as well try to support him. The only thing that worries me is the head injury. Other than that, he has the size, the hands and the skill set....so let's at least reserve our criticism until we can watch him on a game-to-game basis and see what he can do. I'm at least willing to give him a shot to do something here with an open mind.

I will support him. I hope he lights it up. I'm just not thrilled with the trade right now.

I wasn't very happy about getting Lupul, but I'm happy to say I was wrong. I hope I can say the same about JVR.
