It's funny people ripping each pick or move when they are all at this point development 18 year old kids and none of us have any clue what they will turn into down the road, if you have faith in this team, the GM, & their scouts trust they know what they are doing.

Although there was talk that Keith Yandle would be traded on Friday, Coyotes GM Don Maloney said he received no serious offers regarding Yandle. "Keith Yandle is an assistant captain, a core member of our team and the best young offensive defenseman in the game," Maloney said. "So if we were ever to make a deal, it would have to be something very special." Yandle had 11 goals and 43 points in 82 games last season.

C'mon OB, stop being so positive. Let's start the fire Holmgren movement right here and now. For this awful draft.

Sorry - typo on Carter. Point is the Flyers scouts (and org in general) has a good history with picking forwards later in the first round.

I'm still giving them the benefit of the doubt.

- BringBack25

Look, to some degree I agree. But most of those other guys were highly skilled forwards, and even Downie had a lot more offensive upside than most scouts believe on Laughton. Could they be right? Yes, of course. But considering the organizational need at D I don't think they get a free pass when they drafting a checking line forward at 20 and goalie at 45.

Future players. Let them develop. Some pan out and others dont. Happens for every single team in the NHL.

Nope, no matter what I'm a Flyers fan, I'll elect to remain as positive as one can.

I know I'm not a GM, scout, or have any say in what they do & that it's just my opinion I'll keep the faith that at least most of this will work out for them or in a move down the road to bring in a missing piece.

See, now you are just taking it to the extreme. I am not in any way saying fire Holmgren. But everyone is saying it is not fair to even question the Flyers moves right now because they always are on the money. I disagree with that point. I think it is completely fair to disagree with their approach to this draft.

Are they deliberately not showing any information on the Flyers picks to avoid the bombardment of boos that will follow? There has been next to nothing in terms of discussion or film at the draft.

Here's the problem. Some fans are putting this label of checking line forward on Laughton, based on projections. Who's to say that he won't be more then that? Did the Flyers really choose to select a player that they feel will be a 3rd line role player with the 20th overall pick. I doubt it.

That could be the case. If hes unable to land a defenseman then I can see him going after Nash or Ryan.
- stveshdy

I really think Howson is really in trouble with trading Nash. I guess he is assuming the losers in the Parise sweepstakes will create a bidding war for Nash. I just don't see the offers getting better then what has already been submitted for Nash. If anything, the offers would probably get worse and not better.

Voice your opinion. Nothing wrong with it. As a fan you can agree or disagree with a pick. Theres no right or wrong answer. A teams picks either pan out or they dont.

I don't think it's fair to disagree with their approach. Why because it's not the approach you wanted them to take?

It's just puzzling to me we see a team like Detroit keep picks year in and year out and always have this waive of talent coming to help them in many ways and reach the finals time after time.

It's time we learn from that and get the waive of talent going that can come in and help them as a team on the ice or in a move to bring in a piece via trade.

Let's say he does end up as a 3rd liner, playing mostly a shutdown role and on the PK. Can that really be seen as a failure? Sure, they could have went for a guy with more offensive upside, but there's no guarantee that that guy ever plays an NHL game. Considering the percentages, getting a solid NHL contributor at any point in the draft isn't bad.

Your probably right. He doesn't want make a mistake trading his franchise player but in the end its something that has to be done.

Have to give Detroit credit they hit a lot of later draft choices (so it seems).

Looks to me like what they said they'd do all along - take the players they felt were the best ones available, not draft based on need.

They've taken a few d-men in the 3rd and 4th rounds.

If you want to question their strategy that is your right. But I believe the Flyers scouts and org in general know more about these players, and hockey in general than you do. Or than I do. I'm willing to wait an see how it plays out before condemning them.

I don't believe Homer is depending on his draft class to help improve the team for next year. He will make other moves that he feels will better this team heading into next season. He is far from done with this club.
- stveshdy

the draft rarely affects a team the nxt yr. they are drafting for 3-5 yrs down the rd

Because their GM has said "I'd rather bring them over ripe then over whelm them"
