I personally think we could have got move for JVR is we wanted to be patient and develop some draft picks or by packaging him with other youth. But it was a decent straight up trade and Schenn can end up developing into one heck of a defenseman.

This time, I completely agree with you. All things said, I'm ready to see what Luke Schenn can do for he Flyers

i remember one game he played against the flyers in (i want to say) his rookie year and remember being highly impressed. i watched the games we played the leafs this year and i'm not even sure if he played. to me that says he's a stud that needed a change of scenery. i think we might have a gem on our hands. i think a fresh start and a new system and coaching staff to play for will do wonders for his psyche. i think playing for a perpetual non-playoff team and not getting along with his captain may have affected his play. i know (weird, but i think fitting analogy) when i play pool i shoot much worse when i have things hanging over my head, and much better when i'm happy.

i also think similar may be true about three letters. rare to see a trade where both teams get a good player who needed a change of scenery.

So here's a crazy thought...

How insane would it be if, just days after uniting the Schenns, we trade B. Schenn (or really either of them) as part of a package for Nash/Ryan/Weber/Yandle/whoever?

I hope you're right. He's a young player, he has plenty of growing to do. A fresh start in a city that appreciates physical play should do him well.

As for JVR, I'll miss him. I hope he achieves moderate success, and has plenty of long summers.

As far as big trades go, I'm really only interested in Weber. nothing against the other players.

agreed. i am in no way advocating trading b schenn or anyone else. just thought about how insane it would be if one of them got traded before they every played a game together on the flyers.

Yeah, that'd be pretty loopy. With this team, though, who knows?

just an outside opinion. havent read every page, but i see a lot of the talk and ill comment.

1. Shero is clearly up to something. Shero is usually a very quiet GM who doesnt let much leak. most of our trades have come out of nowhere. yet he has been hinting a lot lately plus a lot of "sources" know a lot. Staal was a hockey trade. Michalek was a cap dump.

2. Parise really is a wildcard right now. IF the rumors are true and Crosby and Parise want to play together, then the Penguins will get Parise. Keep in mind, Crosby took a big discount last time and even wanted to redo his contract to keep Hossa. If getting Parise means taking a lower contract, he would do it.

3. Right now, i see the serious market for Parise being NY Rangers, NJ Devils, Philly, Pitt, Detroit, and Minnesota... plus there are always one or two mystery teams.

4. Suter i think goes to DET. if what he says about wanting to stay in the West is true, DET will easily make the best offer.

5. This JVR/Schenn trade is interesting. While i thought Schenn was decent, he turns the puck over a lot and seems to make a lot of dumb decisions. I have a feeling that he has low confidence... having his brother around should help though. Plus, TOR ruins defensemen...

6. Am very happy to see BOB leave the East. he killed us at home everytime...

best of luck for July 1st. penguins will be in the news, i would rather get Parise then trade for Ryan.

270 hits last year, and 250 the year before.

And he's only what? 22? 24? He's got time to get nasty.

Hang on. So because he hits, that makes him nasty?

I agree. Everyone is saying that the Pens made out great. Really? They lost a player, who if he moves out of the shadow of Crosby and Malkin, and plays with quality linemates, can be a real good player. He's already scored 27 goals in a Season, and he may be one of the best defensive Centers in the League. He may totally blossom in Carolina. So let's not pretend the Pens didn't lose anything here.

Carolina got the best talent in the deal, hands down. J. Staal is going to flourish offensively, to add to his ability to be a shut-down center.

However, this doesn't necessarily mean that it's not a great trade for the Pens, too. First of all, Staal was their 3C, and they were about to pay him $6 million/year for that role. Brandon Sutter comes in and fills the same role at half the price of Staal (this year) and at a third of the cost of his potential next deal.

In addition to re-filling their 3C role, they also create cap space to go after a top-notch winger to play with Crosby and/or Malkin.

They also acquired two very good, young defensemen in the deal.

I thought it was a great move by Shero.

I wouldn't call it a great move. When you lose a player the caliber of Staal, and bring in a far lesser player, albeit a good young player, in my opinion that's not a great move. However with the caveat that Shero's hand was forced. Whatever number you want to apply to Staal, your still talking about a 20 minute a night, all situations player. And one of the top 2 way players in the NHL. I think we'll se Staal blosson in Carolina and find out he's far more then a 3rd line Center, and would be more on most teams. And the two young draft picks are no guarantee. Shero got good value, but I wouldn't say he came out on top there. The Pens became a weaker team in the deal.
