I like B Schenn, but I don't think he's ready to play a first line role. I also think he's better suited as a center. I don't think the guy is on the roster right now.
- PLindbergh31

Agree about him being better at C, but there is a glut there until Briere is done.

Schenn is a better option at wing then Briere.

Am I crazy or wasn't briere playing wing last year..

it seems clear to me that the cost of acquiring a dman w/ a more dynamic game would have included couts or schenn and homer didn't want to go there.

maybe, if the team did a better job of drafting and developing their own they wouldn't be backed into a corner and would be better positioned to maximize asset values. I would also make it an org priority to make changes in the scouting/coaching staff to solve this decades old dilemma.

Briere's defensive liabilities can be masked more on the wing. Perhaps they try Briere with Giroux and Hartnell. That isn't a bad option.

It is funny how people who don't even watch Luke Schenn play are writing this off as being a completely horrible trade. Cracks me up.

They tried him more there the season before last. I don't think it was successful.

When he played with Schenn last season they would sometimes start with Schenn taking the faceoff and Briere on a wing.

Last year proved that they can succeed without JvR in their offensive lineup.

The offseason is not over, they clearly can still acquire a puck moving d-man. And they will.

- Flyers2821

but they still got 7 cents on the dollar for JVR. what was the rush?

Who are you to say that? Schenn was touted just a year ago as a great up and coming young d-man, and then he had a bad year and now he isn't gonna be a great player?

i've definitely thought of that as an option. a lot of your offense on one line in that scenario, but who knows maybe the kids step up and mesh well together

Just because he is taking the faceoof doesnt mean he is playing center. I am pretty sure Briere was playing wing when he was playing with Schenn.

Idk, I think what everyone is saying is they are surprised JVR who was the second overall pick didn't bring back more then L Schenn.

I think they are a better team now, although the potential of Jvr seems to be higher then Schenn. Although Jvr could never reach his potential, and they could get many seasons of solid work out of Schenn. No way to judge the deal fairly until much later on.

Luke Schenn was the #5 pick and just two years ago was being raved about. Had a bad year and now he isn;t good?

if JVR has another injury filled year this season, a lot of people would have been discussing him as a complete bust. It could be a fluke, but 2 concussions and a hip problem that could have been needed surgery is a bad sign.

Could he still be something special, sure. But its now 5 years out from being picked no. 2, and he is quickly running out of time to reach his potential.

you know, when I heard they wanted JvR PLUS Schenn or Couts for Bobby Ryan, it seemed that Jvr's value had really plummeted.

I don't think they got value back but I do think they made the team better by filling a big hole.

(at least that is what I am telling myself now).

I think the team may try to set up a deal sending mezzy out of town if they can get a FA dman. they no longer have assets to trade for a dman and if suter is not an option, what gives?

Yeah a 41 yr old guy who battled leg injuries is the answer.
- PLindbergh31

Didn't say he was the preferred solution but he is one of the possibilities. I don't attribute his leg issue to his age. Injuries happen to players of all ages, but if it's Jagr it's automatically because he's 41? I think if he fully recovers in this offseason he's capable of coming back and continuing his strong play with Giroux. Maybe he should pull back a bit on his rigorous workout regime to leave mroe in the tank for the stretch run/playoffs.

Nah, I agree with you.

I like his game very much, he can dominate shifts when he is on the ice.
He just had a rough sophomore season.

I think the Flyers made their team better.
