So who can they get for Giroux a year after they sign him to an extension?

One thing we don't know about Schenn from Toronto is his playoff ability.

I can find the posts in the thread from back around the trade deadline of people scoffing at the notion of a JVR for Schenn deal, and that is when Kadri was rumored to be in the deal. Now months later, the same folks will defend and endorse this trade now.

Really we have to see how it plays out on the ice, my gut feeling tells me this one won't end well. I could definitely be wrong, won't be the first time, or last.

- PLindbergh31

Just messing with you there sir. I agree about being somewhat shocked there is not more coming back from TO.

But we won't be able to evaluate this deal accurately for a few more seasons, after each player has had more of a chance to reach his ceiling.

Those that feel JVR sucked because he hasn't done anywhere near what Patrick Kane has done so far will be glad to see him gone. Those that feel we could be giving away the next John LeClair will not be happy.

Also, a bit disappointed you haven't already posted about how Bob is now likely to be traded to the Leafs at the deadline, and he and JVR will go on to win the Cup with the Leafs a la Richards and Carter in LA. You're off you're game.

I think they over all maybe lost this deal, but Schenn is going to be great as a Flyer...
I really like the way he plays, and finally a right handed shot.

JvR has had problems with this organization since he went to University of NH.

He will be a consistent thirty goal scorer I have no doubt, but there is that lingering doubt I have about him, will he go through everything necessary to win a cup? It is really too soon to say, he could get multiple Cups some day, but right now I don't think he is that guy to go through a wall for his team. Probably I'm being unfair to him, its only my feeling without any facts that I'm talking about.

Consistent? To me consistency is his biggest flaw.

This crossed my mind, but then I remembered how Bob leaves the top half of the net wide open, and I quickly dismissed it.

If the Flyers sign Parise it makes a ton of sense. And I will like this move. If not, who is playing on Giroux's wing?

Just meant that if he stays healthy he will score 30 goals a year.

I didn't mean consistent as in every shift/game he brings his A game. I agree with you, he was wildly streaky here.

can't believe we couldn't get more for JVR. it's like the JVR asset was burning a hole in homer's pocket and he had to get rid of it fast. what started out as a good weekend for the team, has ended under somewhat of a cloud, imo.

for me, they still need a puck moving dman and now a 20 goal scoring pwr forward.

I don't think they will get Parise.
Obviously would love Parise, he is the kind of player who will go through walls to win.

Might see B Schenn on wing with G and Hartnell.

You know what, I always thought JvR was the fuutre first line winger for Giroux. But Bill Meltzer and some others have pointed out that there wasn't great chemistry there, they both needed to have the puck a lot to be at their best.

Last year proved that they can succeed without JvR in their offensive lineup.

The offseason is not over, they clearly can still acquire a puck moving d-man. And they will.

you know, when I heard they wanted JvR PLUS Schenn or Couts for Bobby Ryan, it seemed that Jvr's value had really plummeted.

I don't think they got value back but I do think they made the team better by filling a big hole.

(at least that is what I am telling myself now).

I like B Schenn, but I don't think he's ready to play a first line role. I also think he's better suited as a center. I don't think the guy is on the roster right now.

Also I think they decided they were going to move Jvr sometime last year, and it was only a matter of time when. I think they sold low, but if he ends up hurt or has another off year, then the return would have been even less.

I trust Homer, I think he knows what is up.

i agree about schenn being better suited as a center. i'd love to see briere moved to the wing, flyers don't seem keen on doing that though
