Wouldn't there have to be a team willing to trade for JVR and give up that pick to move up? There was plenty of talk of the Flyers attempt to move up. Who really knows what went on, but it takes two to tango. And maybe the Flyers will still be in on Suter.

It's June 23rd. The Off Season is far from complete.

I been saying they might still go for a dman, not sure who tho. Gotta be worried about what is going to happen with Kimo. Getting Knee surgery iirc and that doesn't always translate to an immediate comeback.

Of course, there's always someone that criticizes everything (cough plind cough)

But I think the majority of fans were happy with both the Richards and Carter trades (other than those with school girl crushes on them), the Carle trade, and certainly the steal of the century Coburn trade. So yeah, I think there have been many trades most fans agreed with and liked.

At this point, both JVR and Luke have underachieved to some degree. Doubt many would argue otherwise. The point most are questioning is who has the higher upside, and how likely is it that the player ever reaches that upside.

I haven't seen anyone post that they felt JVR was already a fantastic power forward. So I'm not really sure where you're getting that.

I can find the posts in the thread from back around the trade deadline of people scoffing at the notion of a JVR for Schenn deal, and that is when Kadri was rumored to be in the deal. Now months later, the same folks will defend and endorse this trade now.

Really we have to see how it plays out on the ice, my gut feeling tells me this one won't end well. I could definitely be wrong, won't be the first time, or last.

and of course, homer has a crystal ball and can predict that ryan suter would love to play in philadelphia. it's just like a video game, you just snatch up the players you want. who cares what the players/other teams want?
- FlyerMike18

I tried it already. NHL 12 rejected the move. So I forwarded that info to Holmgren and told him to move in another direction. Hence the trade for Schenn.

This trade really can't be judged until we see what else the Flyers end up doing.

Question: has there EVER been a trade that Flyers fans HAVENT criticized? Other than Bob trade.

Honestly, like come on guys. Youre acting like JVR was a fantastic
PWF for us or something. He UNDERACHIEVED.

Its the internet that's what people do. What else are they gonna do be positive? There's no fun in that.

Who are the same people how scoffed at it at the trade deadline, and are now defending the move?

Agreed, that's what really matters. The end product on the ice in September.

Flyers still have plenty of cap space to be in on any free agent this offseason. Should be interesting...

Fair points. We shall see what happens. Right now there isn't any candidate I would want on this roster to play with Giroux, (other than Hartnell) If Parise is signed then this move makes a lot more sense.

You know Toronto fans are looking at all the players we traded away over the years that went on to win cups, making them giddy.

same. wanted a tad more (big 4th line center like steckel).... but schenn at $3.6 fills a big hole. I'm really happy.

both deals could end well. and of course you can't determine how anything ends after a single season either.

i wish jvr success, and hopefully schenn fully develops here. one thing is for certain, if jvr thought he was under the microscope here, it will be even more magnified in toronto.

as far as the fans are concerned, he'll always be a bridesmaid. we lost out on kane, who of course scored the OT cup winner in our building, and jvr has been slow to develop. he'll always have that #2 and not as good as he should have been tag here. i would have liked one more year at least, but whatever. i'm fine with it.

Wow. I am really gonna be the smart one here??

I have faith in homer. All you guys wrre expecting too much from JVR, an he had struggled here. Whether u like it or not, his trade value isnt much.

As for the L. Schenn haters, hich seems to be many. 2 words: sophomore slump. Go see Drew Doughty plz. Kings fans were calling for hos head, he sucks, trade him. Look what happened.

I have a great (frank)ing feeling the Schenns will be ecstatic and go on to have fantastic seasons.
So screw you haters! Learn something about god damned hockey plz. Homer is the man. When has he EVER lost a trade other than Gagne?

- Sabreshark

I believe people will feel better about this move once a.) they see how the whole offseason shapes up for the team and b.) once they see Luke Schenn in the Orange and Black, standing up guys at the blueline, riding them off the puck into the boards, helping to patrol around the net, sticking up for his mates and even contributing to the offense. He's not as much of an slouch offensively as some think. I've seen him make some good plays to set up goals and get some decent shots off too.

It may come as a surprise, but Schenn led the Leafs D men last season in even strength (5v5) Pts per 60 mins on Ice, ahead of guys like Phaneuf, Franson, Gardiner and Liles. Schenn was also first in secondary assists per 60 mins on ice and second in primary assists per 60 mins on ice (5v5). he got hardly any powerplay time w the leafs, but did well with it when he did. At 22 yrs old, there's still lots of potential upside. I think given the question marks with JVR's health and the possible downside risk of him not getting to that level of consistency we all had hoped for, as well as the depth at forward and the Flyers need for defensive depth, this isn't that bad a move...every move carries risk, this isn't one I see as especially unfavorable for the Flyers.

I could be wrong but IIRC you told us Suter doesn't want to play in the East last night, if so that totally debunks that whole everyone thinks Schenn is better thing.

I agree with you Hammar. I won't root against JVR so the Flyers "win" this deal, I like the kid, I have been disappointed with his slow development, but by no means would I have given up on him this quickly.

Holmgren trading players away right after they are given long term deals is absolutely going to have some effect on potential UFA's signing here.

I said there were reports he didn't want to, do I believe that? Of course not, why would he be foolish to eliminate teams who may get in a bidding war for his services.

Schenn is a very good D man, right handed shot.

I'm looking forward to the Schenn brothers era in Philly.
