I don't know much about Luke, but it seems strange to trade straight up a second overall pick for a guy that was scratched at times last year. Trusting Homer on this move.

JVR was a healthy scratch a plenty in his career too.

Schenn will bring the element of physicality and a lot of questionable decision making and positioning. If the Carle detractors think he is a "turn over machine" wait until you get a load of this guy. I liked JVR and wanted him to have the chance to redeem himself this season. He had an injury plauged season, not a season of poor performance. I would have only advocated including JVR for Weber or Ryan.

Good Luck in TO JVR.

I think this will be a very good deal for us ...JVR has one more season to really prove himself ...if he had another injury riddled, under performing season his value would have been down to absolutely nothing.

Homer isn't done ...seems like he is just getting started

I would be disappointed if Holmgren factored in that he figured Brayden will develop and play better with his brother on the team and was satisfied with the 1 to 1 return. I think those two have no correlation. Brayden will be a very productive player in this league regardless of if he plays with his brother. But who knows I just really hope that was not a factor.

Luke still has huge upside as a beast defenseman. I think his outlet passes are totally overlooked as well. Flyers fans will be very pleasantly surprised I think

what's his offensive ability like? does he have the potential to be a viable threat from the point? in your opinion of course. I'd like to get some leafs fan perspective on this.

I don't think there is any doubt that the Flyers got a good player today. Schenn is a physical defensman that is young and is still developing. And he's a RH shot. But my initial reaction is that the Flyers traded a potential 1st line Winger for a #4 defenseman. Now if the Flyers had a big hole for that level of D man, I'd be okay with it. But they didn't. So it's a little puzzling. So we'll see what else happens.

JVR drafted #2 overall
Schenn drafted #5 overall

Schenn = The heavy-hitting stay-at-home defender made the team out of training camp in 2008 and has missed just six games in his first three years, managing 75 points in 310 games. He also averaged 260 hits a season for the past two years while playing around 16 minutes per game.

JVR = van Riemsdyk has 47 goals and 99 points in 196 regular-season games.

In the past 3 seasons JVR has played 196 games
In the past 3 seasons Schenn has played 240 games.

Overall...this trade is pretty even.. People are thinking "I saw what JVR did the playoffs 2 seasons ago (really was one game he dominated that they lost anyway) , we should be able to trade him straight up for Stamkos! "

Reality of it is , both players needed a new start ...Both are young and both have the potential to be impact players. This also clearly sets the Flyers up for something else.

Stop the hate Schenn is a beast. It's a fair trade neither of them lived up to their pontential yet. Schenn is as physical as they come we will like this trade I think

I think if LS doesn't make any more progress, then yes this trade was bad. If he becomes what I've heard- a Scott Stevens, then I'd say we probably got a bargain.

At 22 years old with the pedigree he has I can only think he's going to get better, time will tell. One thing is for sure this team is young and has some collective growing to do. Be good to see them do it as a unit, then maybe they are stronger as a unit.

I feel that JVR has a much higher potential to be an impact player then Schenn does.

Well people were saying earlier that the Flyers didn't have any young defenseman. Well they just got one. And they had some forward depth to deal from.

Flyers must have had concerns about the many injuries with JvR going forward.

Yea I mean you can't tell me that Schenn isn't more of a sure thing than any of those kids that got drafted last night. He's played in the league 3 years already and made an impact, we don't know if any of them will ever see a minute of NHL ice time.

meh. whatever. guys that attract smoke eventually turn into fire. it's always a matter of time. especially with their own first rounders for some reason. they certainly don't have a long shelf life here.

i would have liked to see jvr get another year or even two. what's done is done. hopefully schenn turns into whatever he's supposed to be. nice having a RH shot on the blue line again. it's been far too long.

i don't know what the flyers could offer for ryan now. they won't give up coots or schenn....so i'd be shocked if this comes to fruition here. too bad. i'd really like to see ryan come home.
