I lost any value coming from Tencer/Stauffer yesterday when they preached that their sources told them the 1st overall pick would be "Ryan Murray". Goes to show how reliable their sources are and how reliable the info they are passing on to their readers really is.
- Axeman33

All they said was they thought Murray would go first overall. The Murray momentum that started yesterday morning was huge, more than likely it was intentionally started by someone within the organization to throw everyone off. Leading up to the draft Stauffer said numerous times that he wouldn't be at all surprised if it was Yakupov. Obviously, being that close to the team, Stauffer does get reliable information on the Oilers the majority of the time. About as much as you can really expect from someone. Tencer, on the other hand, just rides the coattails of whatever Stauffer says.

Exactly! Thank you! He's just sitting there twiddling his thumbs waiting for the perfect trade to happen. Get out there and make something happen. I really don't care if we have to overpay, the price is what it is. If it's Gagner and 1 or 2 good prospects to get a top 4 D, so be it. We need it, badly.

ST said he planned on addressing the d situation "this spring" which ended yesterday so I am think that means right away here. I imagine he has a plan for dman. Otherwise they would have picked Matt Finn with the next round pick. A Canadian Dman with solid stats instead of their hundredth winger. Looks like they are happy with their prospects on d which means they plan on bringing in some temp help.

I do think that Pajarvii, Omark Hemsky or all could be on the table for a goalie of defense. However I think all of their value raises after Parise and Nash is traded. If we can lift bouwmeister from Calgary for prospects we don't plan on using and a couple extra roster players. That might be the types of pickups we are looking at.

As for toronto, they obviously drafted another strong dman because they plan ing one or two in a trade to pick up a high end goalie or forward this summer. Maybe both. They obviously don't plan on keeping 6. I bet two are spoken for in two different block buster trades. Whether they happen, I don't know but Burke has them on the table right now.

I don't think it's a bad draft for EDM. EDM got the man in the 1st round. Moroz claims himself to be a power forward for LW. Don't know about Khaira at all. States he can do LW or C, got a good height, some bulk will probably help him and good numbers in the BCHL being the top ranked skater. I do like Zharkov a lot, how he states he has no interest playing in Russia and he just wants to be better than Yakupov that bad in the interview. Thumbs up for good competitive attitude amongst countrymen.

What worries me is Tambellini always says the D situation will be addressed, yet he continues to twiddle his thumbs and do nothing. I can't remember if it was last night or this morning, but he said that they are going to try and acquire a "depth" defensemen. That doesn't sound like the top 4 D the Oilers need to me.

As for Bouwmeester, I too would like to have him, but I'd say the chance of Calgary trading him to Edmonton is pretty much zero. And I would think you are right in regards to Toronto. Burke is probably trying to work out deals for Luongo and a guy like Nash or JVR.

Duchene resigned for 2 years $7M. I don't think Gagner will get that, maybe around the $2.75 or $3M mark. I would love to see Duchene in EDM though.

He is a LW, maybe he can stack on the same line as Yakupov RW.

I just think the Penguins could have received a better immediate player than Brandon Sutter.

Not for a player on a one year contract that knew where he was heading when he was a UFA

The TSN guys had some good stuff to say about it him. That's great. But apparently, the Oilers don't need D..
- dallas717

Maybe the Oilers decided adding two defensive prospects that won't help us for 3-4 years to the other 12 defensive prospects that they already have in the system is enough. they addressed a need with going for size and grit on forward to add to the talented forward prospects we already have. Moroz a reach yes but if they figured he wouldn't be around the next round and he is the one they wanted after Sameulsson. Maybe watch some junior hockey or give these KIDS a chance before you write off the draft. I for one believe day one is Manegement picks day two is Stu's. I like their thinking actually.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: EDM looking for D in trade but new coach is next order of business. Brent Sutter or Ralph Krueger seem to be odds-on favorite(s).

In the case that more did turn out to be NHL caliber than was anticipated, that's when a trade could go down. With RNH, Eberle, Hall, Yakupov, Gagner, Paajarvi, Hartikainen, and Lander up front, and bottom 6 forwards a lot easier to acquire, I'd say the Oilers should be taking D prospects. I'm not saying with all their picks, but some would be nice.
- dallas717

So 14 defensemen isn't enough? Six to Eight can play for Oak City at one time and 3-4 on a shared team with San Jose. How do you expect to develope these defencemen you think we need. As Lahey said we have a well rounded set of defensive prospects right now if 2-3 turn into regular NHLers then Stu did a great job.

Wow.. You are calling Matt Finn and Dalton Thrower "inferior" prospects to Mitchell Moroz? Wow.. You really are stupid.

I never said he would have been there for sure. But seeing as he was ranked 72nd among NA skaters alone, it isn't unreasonable to think he would have been there at 61.

Also, learn to take a joke FFS.

- dallas717

Have you actually seen Moroz play? I know that the Oilers have about 60-80 times in the last two years. Maybe try and give a kid a chance before throwing insults around.

I think odds are pretty good that Todd Button was the scout that was so high on Jankowski.

Well in all honesty, is it that bad? It's a need, look what Kassian cost or the rumored cost of Ott. Granted I would've like to see them maybe trade down a few spots I just don't think it's that bad. Could've went of the board and selected a small RW.

Hey Huge maybe cut the insults. If you know me, I do argue about the moves Tambo makes but then again WTF you don't know me so you wouldn't know how I roll. But Logic says you (frank)ing can't have all defensive prospects and no size at forward or no grit at forward or no goalie prospects because they have no (frank)ing room. So maybe STFU.
